The estimated jackpot for the next draw of the US Powerball Lottery has reached $500m (£342m).
No one has won the lottery's top prize since 4 November, meaning someone could lay claim to the sixth largest jackpot in North America on Wednesday night.
Soaring ticket sales have boosted the jackpot, which could climb even higher if the winning numbers remain elusive.

500 million causes ticket sales to soar because a mere 50 or 100 million is just not worth the effort
When I win, I’m going to buy the Kardashians and lock them in a remote subterranean cage forever.
LOL, my brother and I think that everytime. Like 20M won’t change the normal person’s life forever (good or bad).
The harridans from "The View" are at the top of my list.
and the odds are no better.
And with sharks with fricking laser-beams on their heads. . .
Where I work whenever the jackpot gets over 300 million we do a lottery pool, because that’s enough that even split 30 ways we’d all get FU money. at 50 million once the taxes are out we’d all get “more comfortable but still need to go to work” money which isn’t nearly as exciting.
Those harpies go in the cage as well...Rosie O’Donnell, Jane Fonda, and a slew of the Hollywood trash too...
I think at some point the top prize has limited growth and the ‘overflow’ goes into the lower prizes.
After taxes, you bring home about a third of the stated prize (with the one time payout.). Not bad for a trip to the gas station.
If I win, I’m buying a Studebaker!
$500 million would go along way to getting me out of debt.
Yeah, I LOL’ed at that one.
The winner....will take $166 million..if they take the money up front. Which...most do.
If I win the jackpot, I’ll buy the White House and evict the current occupants.
If I won that, I could pay most of my bills.
If I win I’ll buy a house on the gulf coast of Florida. On the water, with a nice dock.
We have relatives and friends there.
