Erdogan Denies Citing the Third Reich As Good Example for Turkish Presidential System

As we reported yesterday, Turkish president Recip ErdoÄŸan caused quite a stir when he appeared to defend his proposed "presidential system" by referring to Nazi Germany. While visiting Saudi-Arabia, the Turkish leader said:

"There is no such thing as 'no presidential system in unitary states.' There are examples of this around the world. There are examples in the past, too. When you look at Hitler's Germany, you can see it there. You can see examples in other countries as well. What is important is that a presidential system should not disturb the people in its implementation. If you provide justice, there will be no problem because what people want and expect is justice."

According to ErdoÄŸan's office, he's been misunderstood:

However, Erdogan's office said the president had cited the era as a negative example to explain that bad rule can emerge in all political systems. "Whether it is parliamentary system or a presidential system, bad rules that end in disasters can emerge if the system is misused, as it was by Hitler's Germany," the statement said. "It is unacceptable to reflect the president's statement as a positive reference to Hitler's Germany."

In other words, he just expressed himself a bit clumsily. Or something like that.

Happens to me all the time...

"It is unacceptable to reflect the president's statement as a positive reference to Hitler's Germany."

I like the adjective used to describe holding the notion that Erdogan was praising the HItler regime - it's not a statement about about the merits - it's a warning about the acceptability rather than the reasonableness or otherwise of holding the face value interpretation.

Something a tyrant like ... Hitler ... would say.

You hear it now in Obama's tone and see it in his face and eyes when he delivers propaganda - in his head's movements - it's no longer cloaked behind that stupid face staring just so slightly upward, hinging arrogantly back and forth to point his eyes up and at the rear top right and left corners of auditoriums above his audiences' heads - now it's just pure scolding plastered over with an attempt to not scowl and to seem caringly sincere. How he wishes he had a tin pot citizenry and constitution to match his tin pot objectives.

Without a doubt, and even for his supporters, he holds nothing now but the derision and scorn a Hitler holds for sheep too stupid to follow him.

What he really resents them for is that that enough saw through him and now see right past him.

And look at that - fitting that I would without original intention drift from a short comment on the likes of Erdogan and Hitler to our own little diaper tyrant.

ErDOGan is an Islamo Fascist supporter of ISIS Terrorists.

Erdogan is Obama’s best buddy. Both Erdogan & Obozo Lie 24/7.

Erdogan wishes to be like the Grand Muttfi of Israel during WWII. Erdogan is purely evil.

What a nice sentiment. Setting aside the likely differences in definitions of justice, I don't see that he has followed this precept (think his so running contraband oil for ISIS), nor either has his pet crony Obama.
