An Arizona couple planning to marry in Las Vegas on New Year's Day probably didn't expect what transpired on New Year's Eve.
That's because Ronald Bauman and Dumitru Alexeev on Thursday became the 5,000th same sex couple to receive a marriage license from Clark County since it began issuing them in October 2014.
Plenty of perks came with the "milestone" figure, the county said.

How would anybody know that this is # 5,000? Is the numbering system different, or what?

If the record is computerized, it’s simple to run a query where sex of person1 is the same as sex of person2.
Only if the sex is identified. I was not aware that sexual identification was a required field.

Lot’s of people go to Las Vegas to get married and lot’s go for a divorce. The interesting figure would be the ratio of marriage license types over the same period as the 5,000.
I could not find a sample of a recent Arizona marriage license, but you may be right. California and New York do not list the sex, only the multiple choice of Bride/Groom/Spouse. My Michigan marriage license from 1982 identifies the male and female.
