Still struggling to rebound, Bush cancels ad buys in Iowa and South Carolina, redeploys staff

Republican presidential candidate Jeb Bush is canceling reserved advertising time in Iowa and South Carolina, the latest reminder of his struggles to connect with voters -- and a sign of possible fundraising troubles.

The decision will keep Bush from paying for roughly $3 million of reserved TV time in January -- a little more than $1 million in Iowa just under $2 million in South Carolina. Instead, Bush plans to redeploy roughly 50 staffers to the four states that hold the first contests next year.

The campaign acknowledged that its announcement came on Wednesday because it was the final day before payment was due for the January air time. But the first hint of impending reassignments appeared in an email sent to staffers just before Christmas. When you come back from the holidays, the message said, make sure to pack gloves and warm clothes.

Emails sent to supporters this week from Bush's brother, former president George W. Bush, and the candidate's son, Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush, asked for last-minute donations of as low as $1.

"No other fundraising deadline will be as scrutinized as this one," George P. Bush said in his message to supporters.

Whether the campaign even had $3 million to spend on television advertising is unknown -- senior aides declined to say how well he did in the final three months of the year.

Bush’s Ad we see over and over again around here is the one about Trump bullying his way to the Presidency. Am so sick of it and him; he sounds like a whiny bully.

Bush campaign indicated it was going after Rubio and Cruz in Iowa. Whatever the bushies do against Cruz will be to no effect but they can enmesh Rubio in afight that deflects from Trump and Cruz and diminishes Rubio and would diminish Bush if he were at a level that has any room for diminution.

Jeb’s campaign is broke.

After blowing $33 million on massive advertising in New Hampshire with nothing to show for it, its humiliating for Jeb to have to beg the peasants for votes the old-fashioned way.

Remember, it was supposed to be a coronation. With the year closing out, Jeb isn’t even registering in the polls.

Whatta loser.

Watching that ad, it is clear that it is cut and pasted with Bush adding after-the-fact “stinging” retorts to Trump.

The media and pundits are so desperate to defeat Trump, that they are now trumpeting Cruz.

Let’s see....

Trump - $2 Million per week in ad buys in Iowa.
Bush - 40 staffers and no ad buys

hmmm...

My only question is “how long will Jeb ignore reality?”

Maybe he could pull off Rick Santorum’s feat in Iowa.

He still won’t win the nomination.

Santorum did it with a ground game, and visited all 99 counties, most of them multiple times. Jeb! has no ground game and avoided Iowa for two years before it was apparent his campaign was failing.

Amnesty is Death To America, it’s kind of like trying to sell cancer. No amount of advertising is going to make cancer popular.

I agree totally. The BEST THING that Jeb can do for Trump/Cruz in Iowa is get into a cat fight with Rubio, thereby pulling Rubio down...as Rubio is not the Big Money pretty boy. But let’s not discuss it anymore, Bush’s people may be listening.

This reminds me of the Japanese at the Battle of Midway. It didn’t work out so well for them either.

If $ 60 Million spent on ads have taken you from 15% to 2% what the hell is another $2-3 million gonna do?

yeb? should give every one on his staff a $10,000 bonus, make them happy, go and get a lewinsky, and go home to that loving midget...
