Road Trip: Camp Blanding Joint Training Center, Florida

Camp Blanding Joint Training Center is the primary military reservation and training base for the Florida National Guard, both the Florida Army National Guard and certain non-flying activities of the Florida Air National Guard.

The installation is located in Clay County, Florida near the city of Starke. The site measures approximately 73,000 acres and includes Kingsley Lake. It also hosts other Reserve, Army National Guard, Air National Guard, and some Active Component training for the U.S. Armed Forces.

Camp Blanding is the primary training site for most of the Florida National Guard's military units and the main combat arms brigade, the 53rd Infantry Brigade of the Florida Army National Guard.

It is also home to the headquarters and support companies of the 3-20th Special Forces Group, the 211th Infantry Regiment, and the 2-111th Airfield Operations Battalion (AOB) Aviation Regiment.

Training Areas include three Major Maneuver Areas with a total of 55,000 acres plus of varied topography planted pine plantations, swamps, oak hammocks, desert like terrain with minimal environmental restrictions, with the ability to support a Light Infantry Brigade plus one Battalion of aggressors.

The Military Operations in Urban Terrain (MOUT) Collective Training Facility consists of 16 Buildings and a Bridge and Tunnel Trainer.

In 2008 Camp Blanding became host to the Army's latest Air Assault course in response to the growing need for Air Assault trained individuals for the continuing operations in Iraq and Afghanistan.

There is also a bombing and strafing target for military aircraft, primarily used by the Navy, Marine Corps and Air Force, located on the southern portion of the post.

He was honorably discharged from the Army in January 1946 at Camp Blanding Florida.

The room was splashed with an assortment of enchanting colors as women in beautiful saris scurried around, completing the final touches for a fundraising event. Formerly from India, these women now live in the USA. Yet they remain concerned for their native country. Upon hearing about the financial situation of a Christian school for autistic children in India, they not only heard the need, but they also took it to heart and responded.

Nehemiah did not allow his comfortable position in life as cupbearer and confidant to the most powerful man at that time to nullify his concerns for his countrymen. He talked to people who had just come from Jerusalem to find out the condition of the city and its citizens (Neh. 1:2). He learned that “those who survived the exile . . . are in great trouble and disgrace. The wall of Jerusalem is broken down, and its gates have been burned with fire” (v. 3).

Nehemiah’s heart broke. He mourned, fasted, and prayed, asking God to do something about the terrible conditions (v. 4). God enabled Nehemiah to return to Jerusalem to lead the rebuilding effort (2:1-8).

Nehemiah accomplished great things for his people because he asked great things of a great God and relied on Him. May God open our eyes to the needs of those around us, and may He help us to become passionate and creative problem-solvers who bless others.

Father, there are great needs all around us. We choose not to give in to despair or apathy, but look to You for help in doing the task at hand.

Those who walk with God won’t run from the needs of others.

Insight:

Nehemiah is remembered for his part in the rebuilding of the walls of Jerusalem. Today’s passage is the beginning of that project. Notice Nehemiah’s first response to the news about the condition of Jerusalem. He stops everything else and spends time in prayer (1:5). Never a bad first step in any situation.

The lower 48 is getting all our cold weather. Supposed to be high 30s and low 40s the next couple days. Rain, too!!

Yes, Daddy’s family has been in Florida since at least the 1700s. I have found the head stone of one of our ancestors in Walton County which dated to I think 1791.

Mother’s family pretty much had the same history except her fmaily, the McDuffies came to the U.S. from the Scottish Island of Colonsay sometime also in the 1700s. They actually came through the same Scottish community in Walton County as Daddy’s.

I drove by the turn over to Camp Blanding off US 310 last month. I was visiting a classmate USN(Ret) in The Villages.
I had to look up the name Stark for the city enroute. In a quaint way Florida is not sure if it was named after a Confederate officer land owners wife or a local slave owner. Bet they never change the name of the town. I love living in Florida so pro military.
