Ya, working in an oilfield and gas environment pays more usually, but usually because of hours.

Example: Edmonton Alberta employee electrician, 40 an hour, 40 hour work week typically.

Grande prairie electrician oil and gas employee 40 an hour, typical 72 hour work week.

Of course in oil and gas, many run their own trucks or outright contract. I don’t know if outfits operate like that there, but it helps keeps taxes down and increases income.

For engineering and design, the rate is higher as well.
