Well, he was highly trained where most of the rest of us aren’t smart enough to know how to handle ourselves in a dangerous situtation. Or something.
There is one other inconvenient fact here. Honestly SEALS are nothing special in the context of civilian street crime shootouts. The average civilian enthusiast is every bit as good, and often better.
There is this fantasy, nourished by hit movies, that SEALs are some modern love child between a ninja, Wyatt Earp, and James Bond. Masters of every weapon known to man. The truth is that they are very good “soldiers” but not fully what people expect.
They have a rather narrow focus when it comes to guns.
The average military shooter is very very good with military weapons, in a military context.
The copious time spent learning parachuting, swimming, driving tactical vehicles, exercising, radios and communicating, surveillance, sniping, spotting, mission planning training, photographing, navigation on water, and land, directing supporting air and fire support. etc etc... does not make one a better shooter.
It makes one a better war fighter.
But when it comes to the use of a gun in day to day life. Their opinion is little better than average. When speaking of defensive shooting, how and when it happens, or the legalities, they are quite often less skilled that you and I, or than a good cop.
So sorry the dude got shot. Now he should shut up and go away. Read a book, get a hobby. Talk about the war. I doubt if he’s 30. Go be seen and not heard on grown up topics.
