A UN-sponsored deal to evacuate more than 2,000 Islamic State (IS) group fighters and other militants from rebel-held parts of south Damascus has been delayed, a body that monitors the war said on Saturday, a day after a rebel leader was killed.
Buses were due to transport the fighters to Raqqa, the de facto capital of the IS group in northern Syria, Lebanese Hezbollah’s Manar TV station said.
But the deal fell through after the Jaysh al Islam rebel group’s leader Zahran Alloush, through whose territory the convoy had been granted safe passage, was killed in an air strike on Friday, the broadcaster said.
The arrangement was the first of its kind between the Syrian authorities and the IS group.
It would have marked a significant show of strength by the government of President Bashar al-Assad, increasing its chances of reasserting control over a strategic area four kilometres south of the centre of the capital.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, an independent British-based monitoring group that tracks violence across Syria, said the evacuation had been expected to take place early Saturday but was delayed as there was now no secure territory for the militants to pass through.
Manar TV said buses arrived on Friday to pick up the fighters and at least 1,500 family members but had turned back.

I guess now the Syrians will have to tighten their circle around IS and ask the Russians to drop cluster bombs and napalm until nothing remains but a carbon footprint.

Instead of bombing the UN buses - which would’ve probably had blue helmets on them too (on purpose)- and the world would have field day - Russia blocks their escape route!
and takes out another ISIS leader in the bargain.

If ANYONE has ANY doubt about how stupid and useless the UN is this should remove all doubt. Rescuing ISIS fighter but leaving the Kurds and Yazidis to the death squads.
I don’t get it - the UN is rescuing murderers???? Or at least had plans to? What am I missing?

That was no accident or miscalculation. My FRiend. It was a deliberate, planned act. The U.N. along with the Democrat Party and alphabet media organizations, one and the same, actually want the IS fighters brought over here[the United States of America]. The Kurds and Yazidis they want killed. Once I.S. fighters arrive here and are given time to get their “sea legs” , so to speak, The slaughter of Christians, Jews, and those identified as Conservatives will begin. How it will end depends on if the Christians, Conservatives, and Jews will recognize that they are in a kill or be killed war. That they are in a war in which one side will wipe the other side out. A war in which the Mayors of Tampa, Florida and Saint Petersburg, Florida, among others including the White House have publically declared that they side with the muslims. At present, it does not look too promising, but perhaps things will change.

While I understood the tactical decision, I never was happy with letting 2000 jihadis walk to kill another day, maybe now we can get them transported in 2000 body bags instead ;)
