Charming story. So Audrey Hepburn-like.

We already have women in combat units flying attack aircraft and helicopters. My red line would be ground troops and on ships like submarines where living in close proximity will cause some problems. There are biological differences, behaviors, and urges, which cannot be controlled by regulations or political correctness. For example the Navy has experienced problems with keeping its ships fully complemented due to the many incidences of pregnancy.

The only way to overcome this silliness of thinking that women should be a ground combat and submarines (I was a submariner and I am against it 100%) is to make them do it and then have the women beg to be relieved of that horrible burden.

Until then, we are going to have women getting promoted to flag ranks who don’t understand that combat personnel are not just counters on a map to be used and lost as necessary. We need Generals who think more of the men on the ground than the ROEs that murder them.

And don’t if you ever crossed a Jewish girl. It’s not something you do twice! :-)

I was commenting on your observations that these women want to be called soldiers, sailors, and airmen. They have every right to do so even if they are not in combat units.

How do you define combat? We have women assigned as fighter pilots now taking off from carriers. Are those air-wings combat units? There are women Commanding Officers of Navy ships.

The reality is that we already have women in combat roles. The question is should it extend to ground units. I am not in favor of that, but there are areas where women can serve in combat and be allowed to do so. Get it?

>>Get it?

Got it. I said it back near the start of this thread. This silliness still won’t end until women demand it and tell the butch careerists to “STFU or you’re going to get us all killed!”

Not going to happen any more than having gays serving openly in the military will be rescinded. The military has been politicized. Operational effectiveness is being sacrificed to political correctness.

As I posted earlier, the net effect will be fewer women enlisting in the military if they are forced into combat roles.

You are right about that.

Exactly my point when some here say they want women to be in any draft for "fairness".

They lose sight of the fact that it's a relatively small minority of "activist" XX-chromosome beings that ask for this and that if we call for women to be draftable, we fall into the Leftist meme of ignoring the difference between the sexes. IOW, we become the enemy we claim to disagree so vehemently with....

Now women enlisting may find themselves involuntarily assigned a combat MOS based on the needs of the service instead of the jobs promised by their recruiter.

Who woulda thought of those unintended consequences??

I remember a survey of Army enlisted and commissioned women serving in US Army Europe around 1984-85. It asked if they thought that, if war alert happened between NATO and the Warsaw Pact would they:

1. Be evacuated with the military wives and children to the States?

2. remain in Germany and enter into combat with their assigned units?

70% of those who answered the survey thought that #1 was the correct answer, that they would be evacuated and not remain with their units.

With the last 14 years of war, I hope that women realize they will deploy with their units, no matter their MOS.

Then it was maybe likely, as a third level priority.

Now most will find out they are just another belly button for the needs of the service. Careful what you wish for...

“An enlistment is 4 years.”

No always.

“Women have been serving on warships and combat aircraft for decades.”

Volunteered to serve in combat flying fighters or helos is a rare thing and they asked for it.

“They’ve been getting blown up in the middle east for much longer than 4 years.”

And here in the states as well.

“This is just like the claim that ‘I didn’t sign up to follow Obama.’ Well, it’s 2015 pal. You enlisted or reenlisted under Obama.”

I don’t agree.

Anyway, you have your feelings on the subject and I have my reasons.

Cheers.

Kind of like when females were to be missile launch officers. . .and the loudest complaints were from the wives and girlfriends. . .drop into a hole and don’t surface and live in close quarters. . . ..

I was serving in the UK and Germany at that time and do recall several surveys taking place asking about such things. You are correct in your recollection.

Another data-point: Recall a survey that found the #1 reason guys enlisted was “duty,” whereas the #1 reason among females was for travel and education benefits.

Interesting. . .

I like her as well. Perhaps there should simply be all-female units. Then they can haul their own asses outta trouble cuz they cannot do it for most men. It should also reduce the possibly of pregnancies. It’s a personal benefit for the woman to be in a male combat unit, but not vice versa.
