Yeah some of the liberals have moved into Virginia. NJ and NY need to bring them back.

It is hard to run a welfare state without clients.

“Texas does not want Californication nuts immigrating there for that reason.”

Fine with me! I’m a native-born Californian and a conservative, and I wouldn’t even consider a move to Texas (I actually did in the 1970’s but decided that the weather and real estate values were the $hits and thankfully stayed here in CA). The mistake people like you make is that you think everyone who lives in California is a liberal. It doesn’t take much of a difference in political makeup to materially change who gets elected. And in case you haven’t noticed, Texas has festering $hithole cities just like California. I gues you’re O.K. in Texas if you live out in the stix in Tick Turd County, but Houston, SA, and Dallas, not so much! And you can put Austin right up there with Boulder, Berkeley, and Boston as far as Commie cities are concerned. And with illegal immigration booming in Texas, you can look for the next tier of your counties above the Rio Grande to go RAT in short order (like the one’s along the river have already). And don’t get me started on what passes for law enforcement in places like Whacko! So enjoy where you are for the short time you have left before you find that the leftists have “found you.”
And I will always be thankful that my children grew up speaking proper English!
Merry Christmas and when you sing “Sahlent Naught” think of me.

The article has one error.

“Like every other state, Illinois had more births than deaths.”

Maine for one had more deaths than births and has done so in 3 of the last 4 years.

Although this statement is correct, it is often misiterpreted. Every pop chart showing the breakdowns include this footnote.

“2 Net international migration for the United States includes the international migration of both native and foreign-born populations. Specifically, it includes: (a) the net international migration of the foreign born, (b) the net migration between the United States and Puerto Rico, (c) the net migration of natives to and from the United States, and (d) the net movement of the Armed Forces population between the United States and overseas. Net international migration for Puerto Rico includes the migration of native and foreign-born populations between the United States and Puerto Rico.”

The column includes armed forces returning state side. Not logical that they are considered as international migration in an out of the country. I have never seen any breakdowns of what percentage of the total international migration they are.

Also, not a factor in most states, but for Illinois and New York migration from Puerto Rico is part of international migration. PR is losing people in droves, 65,000 this year and almost 300,000 over the last 5 years.

West Virginia also had more deaths than births.

“With Illinois population shrinking two years in a row, Pennsylvania is now closing in on the Land of Lincoln and could soon become the fifth-most-populous state in the U.S.

Although PA did not pass Illinois this year they are on pace to do so next year as noted in article. But several other states did change places this year.

Arizona moved to 14th largest state passing Massachusetts.

South Carolina moved to 23rd largest state passing Alabama.

Utah jumped over Arkansas and Mississippi to 31st largest state. Missiissippi moved from 31st to 32nd and Arkasas moved from 32nd to 33rd.

And lastly, New Hampshire passed my state of Maine to be the 41st largest state.

I am also a native Californian; in my case it was Colorado I looked at back in the early 80’s for retirement.
Real glad I didn’t go; they are just as bad, if not worse than California now.
But you do need to cut the Texan a little slack here, he only knows about California from what he reads in the liberal papers and see on the TV news.
He is just trying to preserve a way of life that is better than what he hears about elsewhere.
He hasn’t quite figured out yet that illegal aliens and liberals are like smallpox; they infect and kill everything they touch, and they spread like wildfire.
Remember; most folks don’t even know that there are any conservatives left in California.
I am getting old now and don’t expect to see the turnaround in our great state, but it will happen.
The WETBACKS and PROGRESSIVES are just about out of other people’s money, and the businesses that were the money makers are leaving the state in droves.

CA is, what, 49 percent Anglo? It’s not that much higher in TX either, but voter registration in TX is heavily Anglo in comparison.

Yes, but do they keep on voting Dumbocrat when they resettle elsewhere?

Don't know how things work "Up North" but when someone leaves one state for another it's often for reasons of taxation, etc.

For example,I've finally become fed up with the place of my birth,Massachusetts (one of the highest taxed states) and will be moving about 35 miles north to one of the lowest taxed states (New Hampshire).Still close to family...still close enough to my health care....still close to Logan Airport...still get to see the Patriots on Sunday afternoons. And no income tax and no sales tax.

And won't be voting Rat.

Of course you are right. I guess I shouldn’t have been so tough, but I get really tired of this “Problem Transference” to California by people whom you rightly tag with not knowing from whereof they speak. They don’t make the connection of early demise of California the “migration” of the Liberal/Communists, who after crapping up their nests in the Northeast moved all the way across the country to set up shop in one of the nicest places on God’s earth. My guess is that they didn’t stop in the Midwest because it didn’t offer therm “the place” for which they were looking. Certainly Texas was not on their list of places to settle, and at the time, no one could say that Texas had much going for it. Our aging political class mostly came from somewhere else (that scum sucker Nancy Pelosi is the daughter of one of a long line of Corruptocrats who was for a time mayor of that Wonderful City of Baltimore, Maryland).
And like you, I’m probably not going to live to see the rebirh of California, although at least I can say that as a child, I had the extreme good fortune to grow up in an idylic place where everything was first class, the weather was wonderful, and the governor of the century, Ronald Reagan. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and yours. Pray for our State and our Country.

No fears. The PA dem gov is raising taxes with the blessings of the republicans and so there should be a loss of smart people.

Don't kid yourself: Governor Bruce Rauner, while professing to be a Republican will ultimately raise taxes here in Illinois after years and years of tax increases under Democrat regimes.

Illinois' State Legislature has a Democrat Super-Majority which means they can pass anything they want without a single Republican vote, and then over-ride Governor Rauner to pass any tax increases he may veto.

Illinois has been at a budget impasse since shortly after Governor Rauner took office and effectively the state of Illinois is operating without a budget. This means the state of Illinois effectively has NO IDEA how much money it's spending and taking in on a daily basis. (Sounds like the Federal Government doesn't it? Where do you think they learned it from, and how well has that been working out for the country????)

As an example, the state of Illinois had suspended payments to Illinois Lottery winners because the state didn't know if it had the money to pay them or not. Lottery winners sued the state, a judge ruled in their favor, and lottery winners are "getting their checks."

In the meantime, Hospitals in Illinois are going mostly un-paid for taking care of State Medicaid and Obamacare patients. One friend is an ER doc in a big hospital with one of the few remaining trauma centers in the SW Suburbs of Chicago. (Chicagoland Freepers can easily guess which one that is.) The state of Illinois is NOT paying for treating these uninsured gang-bangers and those they shoot up, who ultimately end up in the E.R. Due to that, his paycheck by the hospital has been cut (per his contract with said hospital...) until the state of Illinois pays up and he'll then get his "back pay" with a whopping 1% interest for his troubles. This situation for him specifically has been going on for 6+ months and he's barely scraping buy. No, he's not one of those "rich doctors" everyone likes to beat up on for "making too much money" ... I work in Information Technology and make more than he does.

The second example is another doctor friend (and also my personal physician who's literally saved my life once) who now has to turn away Obamacare patients because the state hasn't paid him for over 6 months either and he simply cannot afford to have those seeking "free healthcare" clogging up his waiting room non-stop while his insurance paying patients who also have co-pays (cash on the spot to pay him for services) sit there and wait among them.

I have a third friend who stopped doing any work for the State of Illinois almost a year ago now because they're in the hole to him for over $250k. He owns his own telecommunications firm. He's filed suit against the state for payment, no longer does any work for the state of Illinois and has been focused on his PAYING customers to keep his 22-24 full-time employees working so he doesn't have to lay them off. He's also 67 and thinking about retiring, chucking it all and leaving the state assuming he can find someone to buy his business out. Otherwise, it's closing and he's outta here. I see him for breakfast on Friday mornings and constantly get updates from him.

As for me, June 30th, 2017 I'm wheels up and the hell out of this state. All these unpaid bills will have to be paid somehow and absent an amendment to the Illinois State Constitution, all $111,000,000,000 in unfunded debt and pension obligations are going to have to be paid somehow. Absent an amendment to the State Constitution which GUARANTEES Government Workers their FULL PENSIONS NO MATTER WHAT, this state is sunk. No one in the State Legislature has the balls to introduce a Constitutional Amendment to begin fixing the problem, much less vote on whether or not the question should be put to the voters of this state.

The Public Sector Unions OWN THIS STATE, lock, stock, and smoking barrel. If I, a taxpayer in this state don't like it I have two choices: tough shit, suck it up cupcake, or leave.

The State of Illinois and the corrupt Democrats AND Republicans have stolen and wasted all the taxpayer dollars that were to be had. They're going to reach into our pockets AGAIN, steal more of our money, and then congratulate themselves for doing so, all the while kicking the can further down the road and convincing enough STUPID VOTERS that the problem has been "fixed" when it has not. It's a cycle we've seen again, and again, and again, and again for decades now here in Illinois.

I have 541 days left in this state, which is the number of days until youngest son graduates high school, plus 30 days for me to sell my home and get the hell outta here. If I can't sell it, I'll hire a good arsonist to burn it down to collect the inflated insurance rates I've been paying all these years.

Either way, 541 days and I'm outta here. No matter WHAT happens in this Godforsaken state.

Lurker, did I get anything wrong above?

“They have hundreds of thousands of illegal Hispanics that have flowed in the past 15 years. One of the major unreported stories in the country. For whatever reason Illinois has been a prime destination.”

Because Illinois has a very "generous" welfare system. People who exhaust their benefits in other states come here. By mere fact they come here and establish residency (a simple mailing address) they qualify for food stamps, housing assistance and more.

One HUGE problem in Illinois that's been hidden for a very long time are SQUATTERS. Those who literally break into unoccupied homes, apartments and condo's and start living there.

"Educated" Squatters here in Illinois know that once they establish residency in an abandoned home, condo or apartment, it'll take anywhere from 4-9 months to kick them out (physically evict them) under Illinois law.

The way they establish residency is simply to have someone send them a piece of physical mail to their name at the address. The post office receives a letter addressed to them at an address, and delivers it. The post office has no way to know whether or not someone LEGALLY lives in a location, they simply get a letter and deliver it.

Utility Companies (electric, natural gas, water) are for the most part, the same. A squatter calls up ComEd or Comcast to establish service, things get turned on, bills get generated and they PAY THE BILL. That further establishes their "residency" in a location.

Once residency has been established, welfare benefits flow and property owners/landlords have to go through an extensive legal process to prove that person does not in fact LEGALLY occupy the property for a court to issue an eviction notice.

That process alone takes anywhere from 4-9 months at a minimum, depending on how much the squatter fights the process.

"Squatters" here have also gotten very smart. They know if they fight the process, it's actually cheaper for the landlord or other property owner to simply pay them off to leave. In one such case, a very good friend of mine who manages foreclosed rental properties for a large bank delivered a check for $25,000 to a squatter to get them to leave, rather than drag out the process in court with lawyers, etc..

When we talk about the moral breakdown of this country, I think this right here is a prime example of EVERYTHING that's wrong in America right now.

Every time I think about these things and examples like the one above, I wonder just what in the blue hell is wrong with me that I live responsibly, well within my means, am not an economic burden to anyone else, and PAY MY BILLS rather than simply mooching off others like so many others do.

I get physically sick. There does my heart monitor again, I have to stop. NOW.
