Marco Rubio may be the most gifted natural politician to come out of the GOP since Ronald Reagan. But the GOP base seems in no mood to rally around a principled conservative who happens also to be an optimist. That may change, but it hasn't yet. The problem is, Rubio is competing in a primary with two demagogues willing to say pretty much anything to win; several other candidates long on experience but with little personal appeal; and one neurosurgeon who should stick to medicine.
Donald Trump tapped into a deep well of anger in the Republican grassroots, driven by fear and insecurity. Trump tossed red meat to the angriest among them, raising the specter of Mexicans crossing the border to steal jobs and rape women, of Chinese cheating us on trade, of Muslims all wishing we were dead and many willing to kill us if allowed in.
Now Ted Cruz is trying to dip into that same well, with twice the intellect but half the charm of Donald Trump. Cruz would like the nativist wing of the party to feel he's no different from Trump on immigration -- and that he's always been there with them.
Cruz no doubt hopes his listeners won't check out statements he made in 2013, when he offered amendments to Sen. Rubio's bill that would have granted legal status to most illegal immigrants. He told NPR in June 2013, "11 million who are here illegally would be granted legal status once the border was secured -- not before -- but after the border was secured, they would be granted legal status. And indeed, they would be eligible for permanent legal residency."(continued)

Linda Chavez is all-in with the Chamber of Commerce unlimited supply of cheap labor crowd.
Bull Obama!
You have to admit this is an interesting election season. :)
Rubio is the future of the GOPe ... There, fixed it.
So now she is on the “shame us” campaign that Christie and Jeb just happened to have started at the same time?
[Let’s get the rubes to think they need to vote for us for all of the other Americans are depending on us.]
What a bunch of infantile deep thinkers.
Linda listen! Listen Linda!
No
Rubio is the future of the GOP. But the GOP has no future.
Linda, cupcake, If the GOPe doesn’t shape up real fast, they won’t HAVE a future.
I haven’t heard of La Raza Linda in awhile.
I see she is spouting her usual GOPe / amnesty bullcrap. How predicable.
By the way, this thread needs a Barf Alert.
If Rubio is the “future” of the GOP, then the GOP has NO FUTURE.
We the People will end this. With or without the GOP. Certainly without the GOPe.
What is awesome is the author mentions Trump in the second paragraph. She cannot even build up Rubio without first mentioning Trump, then Cruz. It’s clear Rubio has nothing to offer conservatives.
Rubio had a chance to demonstrate conservative principals and blew it. Amnesty for millions of lawbreakers is not in keeping with our laws, our civil society, or tradition. I respectfully disagree with Ms Chavez.
.
So was Dennis Hastert!
A principled conservative who wants to turn the country totally over to the permanent one party rule of the Democrats. His conservative score on any rating system means nothing when he is pro amnesty. That is THE single issue that counts. Without that issue we can discuss his positions and disagree or agree. Amnesty turns all other issues into smoke.
no offense, but why do you post everything twice?
Chortle!
Good ole Linda still pushing the amnesty train. Marco Rubio is about the most unprincipled m*******ker I ever came across. Run and won in Florida as anti-amnesty with full Tea Party support, then promptly joined the he hand of eight to betray the Tea Parties. Rubio is a whore on sale to the highest bidder.
At least he seems be the future of the hop-e!
Powerful Kool-Aid she imbibes.
