Betting Market Names Ted Cruz the GOP Front-runner
New York Magazine's Daily Intelligencer ^ | December 23, 2015 | Eric Levitz

Posted on 12/23/2015 6:09:15 PM PST by 2ndDivisionVet

Ted Cruz was once the GOP Establishment’s top internal enemy. The Texas senator built a national following by forcing his party into doomed crusades against the reality of divided government, and then, in the face of inevitable defeat, disparaging his senior colleagues as weak-kneed RINOs. As of last year, the idea that the GOP would name the Senate’s most-hated man as its standard-bearer was almost unthinkable.

And then a billionaire reality star decided to spend his late-life crisis surfing a wave of xenophobia to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. Six months later, Trump has taken a commanding lead in the Republican primary race — tying the party's brand to "Muslim bans" and the act of "schlonging," in the process.

Now Ted Cruz looks like his party’s consensus candidate, uniquely positioned to bridge the divide between the Trumpist insurrection and the country-club set. And that isn’t merely the assessment of a few political pundits – it’s also the view of many gambling addicts....

About 5 years back there was an online (Ireland based) betting platform that took wagers on US political races.

They went broke. Can’t recall the name (it was not one of the longstanding UK betting houses).

I am thankful to see such a man as this. I thought they were gone in America. And then there was TRUMP.

Men are back! Heck, because of TRUMP we’re ALL back now.
Everyone is TRUMP, because TRUMP is catching.

Even sweeping up those who can not say so. Hillary is so TOAST.

Who cares about them media. I liken many conservative voters are Pro-Cruz. My preference has very little to do with pro or anti Trump. He’s fine, but not near my first choice.

And it only went bankrupt because the US decided to crack down on internet gambling at the time.

“Strange bedfellows...” is true.
But the GOPe wants a candidate who can campaign for RINO Senate and House candidates. I don’t think they’re looking to Cruz for that LOL!

So many great reasons to support Trump including his support for:

Kelo?

Pro-TARP / Auto Bailouts?

Undercut the attempt to balance the Budget of a Tea Party endorsed plan in 2009/2010?

Pro-Universal Health Care?

Wants a “killer of hundreds of thousands” to attend his wedding

Attacks other Conservatives using leftist Alinsky tactics?

Has no understanding of the balance of power and states right’s as evenidenced by his comments on the SCOTUS cases of Health Care, Marriage Equality, and the SC Confederate Flag Issue?

Let me bring you back from your cultist fantasy Rita. If Trump is the nominee, I will NOT be casting a vote for a liberal. I will either write Cruz’s name in or not vote. And I will encourage as many other Cruz supporters of doing the same because the days of voting for a liberal are over. You maybe ok with overlooking every important conservative issue for the sake of burning everything down but many of us are not. And I know I am not alone in that sentiment. Which is why Trump will lose badly when a large chunk of the conservative base stays home because the differences between Trump and Hillary are miniscule.

We either have President Cruz or it’s Hillary. And if it ends up being Hillary, you have no one to blame but yourself.

I keep reading this threat from Cruz people here and finally had to comment. I don’t think your vote is necessary for Trump to win, I really don’t. If it’s supposed to hurt my feelings, it doesn’t do that either. If I’m supposed to rethink my Trump support because you declare him liberal, well, he’s more than conservative enough for me. Oh, and I’ll add this (because you all expect it from me) Trump is a natural born citizen.

You know every time that we cultists chase one of these rabbit trails you send us on, like you have here; Kelo? ProTARP/Bailouts, the TP balanced budget opposition, we find out either the problem never existed in the first place, or that TRUMP gave chapter and verse, at the time, to back up with reason, for his opinion.

Every single time.

As for his own wedding, and for Chelsea’s wedding, the daughters were friends and the parents socialized.

I remember when the “purists” (and I was one) held their personal threshold for their vote, for the nomination and the general election, on the really important things, like LIFE, LIBERTY and RELIGIOUS FREEDOM.

Now we have a winner who is where he needs to be on these deeply held beliefs, who can win, destroy the Establishment strangle hold and has already made a difference just by running, and yet it is never. good. enough.

It happens that Americans across the board are in revolt— moderates, Republicans, conservatives and Independents. They are turning to TRUMP’s no nonsense, street fighter persona and his accomplishments that prove it.

If you miss out on the REVOLUTION, it’s your own damn fault. Already your prissy one-vote is being replaced daily, btw.

TRUMP, 2016

I get a kick out of many who proclaim Trump is not a conservative. So why are these people powerless to elect a ^true conservative^ as president? Because none of those ^conservative^ RESONATE with majority of people. Why do you think Cruz is behind Trump by double digits in 99% of polls? Only a former democrat, divorced, and with Hollywood background and transformed conservative such as Ronald Reagan can RESONATE with voters.

What exactly have the ^true conservatives^ in congress accomplished?

Obamacare scrapped?
Illegals deported?
Wall built?
Anchor babies outlawed?
National debt reduced?
Abortion restricted?
China trade deficit reduced?
Food stamp growth curbed?
Welfare growth reduced?

If Trump can deliver any 3 of above, he is more than enough conservative for most rational people.

Trump is conservative on these issues:

Pro life since at least 2011, wanted to ban partial birth abortion as far back as 2000.
Pro Traditional marriage. ^Gay rights is not my thing.^
Pro capital punishment ^Capital punishment isn't uncivilized; murderers living is^
Hold Judges accountable
Opposes ^Common core is a disaster^ Teach citizenship, quit ^dumbing down^.
Anti education unions (2000)
For school choice
^Climate Change is a hoax^
^No Cap-and-Tax^
For drilling our own.
On Environment ^Good development enhances the environment^
Stressed the importance of a strong family & culture of life (2015)
Supports Israel
Opposes Iran deal and letting Iran obtain the bomb.
Wants to crush ISIS quickly.
Wants a military so strong no one will challenge us.
Against unbalanced trade deals that kill American jobs.
Against warrant-less government surveillance of citizens.
Is against having a high national debt. Warns that $24T is a point of no return.
Against gun control
For assault weapon ban but says the AR-15 shouldn't be considered an assault weapon.
Wants to repeal Obamacare and replace it with market driven polices and increased competition among insurance companies.
Wants to increase military spending.
Will close the border to illegals
Will send the criminals and sponges back.
Will deport all illegals but will let the hard working ones go through the legal process to come back.
Against Anchor babies
Knows unemployment is much higher than official stats.
Will bring jobs back through better trade negotiation.
Attended military academy and Wharton Business School.
Stood up for Birthers and challenged Obama on his fraud.
Believes USA is ^the greatest force for freedom the world has ever known^
Wants to honor commitments on Social Security and Medicare, which we can afford to do if he gets the economy going full steam.
Wants to reduce the fraud in disability and other programs.
Against marriage penalties in tax code.
Wants to simplify tax code with just 3 simple brackets.
Wants to reduce income taxes and reduce corporate tax.
Wants to rebuild our infrastructure.
Wants to apply welfare-to-work to 76 other welfare programs (2011)
Doesn't have time for political correctness.
Not afraid to call out either party or both when they are wrong.
Not a puppet to rich campaign donors.

Here’s another Kool-Aid drinker. Everyone of Trump’s liberal positions are associations is easily explained away (even though no explanation is provided) because Trump gave “Chapter and Verse”.

It’s a “rabbit trail” when we point out Trump’s liberal past?

It’s even becoming a “rabbit trail” when you speak at all, what with all the hysterics, derangement and ABT pouting going on here and there.

WTH doesn’t already know of TRUMP’s liberal past?

Plenty of conservatives have been down that liberal path in their past and are decent conservatives today. A lot of TRUMP supporters get that, have been there, and just don’t care. I don’t care either.

Besides, no one else can beat Hillary, and everyone knows it.

TRUMP,2016

If you told me a year ago that there would be an article naming Cruz the betting favorite for the nomination and that the general reaction here would be whining and complaining, I wouldn’t have believed you.

I saw him edging out Jeb. I didn t expect the Jeb collapse or the rise of the Trumpinator, although I still have Ted as the favorite.

The LSM voodoo just isn t working anymore.
