A "particularly dangerous situation" (PDS) tornado watch has been issued by NOAA's Storm Prediction Center (SPC) for parts eastern Arkansas, northwest Mississippi, northeast Louisiana and western Tennessee until 8 p.m. CST. This type of tornado watch is issued in rare situations when long-lived intense tornadoes are likely, according to the SPC.
Severe thunderstorms have already caused wind damage in parts of Arkansas, southeast Missouri and Illinois this morning, and the threat will only increase and become more widespread in parts of the South and Ohio Valley this afternoon as the tornado outbreak gets underway.

bump!
Here’s hoping and praying that all in harm’s way keep an eye to the sky, an ear to the radio, and are found safe when tomorrow dawns.
Right in the middle of Fedex’s daysort outbound.
Got a NOAA alert for tornado watch here in Indy.
Radar shows a nasty line of storms coming towards us. I’m about 50 miles south of you.

By coincidence, I had a package depart the TN FedEx hub yesterday. I do so hope no violent storms or accompanying tornadoes materialize. That would be a magnificent early Christmas gift.
Would not want to be traveling through the Memphis airport this afternoon. It’s a given that FedEx is hustling to get those widebodies loaded and off the ground before severe weather arrives and the airliners will just have to wait.
FedEx has a lot of pull in Memphis (and at the airport). Runway 18C/36C is known as “Fred’s runway,” after company founder/chairman Fred Smith. The runway is just over 11,000 feet long (2,000 feet longer than any other runway at the airport) and was built to accommodate FedEx freighters flying non-stop to Japan and China. As I recall, a few of the locals grumbled when the runway was built, but they shouldn’t complain since FedEx is one of the few Memphis companies that have achieved double-digit growth over the past 20 years.
A lot of those MD-11s will get out; a lot of the commercial jets will have to wait for the weather to pass.
Sadly, the radar is lighting up like a Christmas tree. Hope all stay safe.
I lost power for awhile and the tornado siren went off here.
Y’all OK? Jangled nerves aside, that is?
Tornado is now near Selmer, TN.
Long track. Nasty.
Doing good here thanks, other than a brief power outage not much has happened here.
Thanks for the updates, prayers up.
The last hour here in NE Mississippi has been a rough ride. Four separate tornado warnings with touchdowns all around. OK now.
Yea, before Selmer it was four miles NW of my house on the Mississippi state line. Like I said, the last couple of hours have been quite a ride.
