Obama To Visit Families Of The 14 Killed In Massacre As Some Criticize Trip December 17, 2015 10:15 PM

SAN BERNARDINO (CBSLA.com) -- President Barack Obama will visit San Bernardino Friday to meet with family and loved ones of the 14 people killed in the San Bernardino massacre.

On the eve of his visit, some were critical of the president for not visiting sooner. Some are also asking why he doesn't plan to meet with survivors.

KCAL9's Tom Wait spoke to one of the president's strongest critics.

"It's almost as like this is like an afterthought, that he's flying on his way to vacation two weeks after the event," says San Bernardino County Supervisor Curt Hagman.

He told Wait the president's visit in his eyes is too little, too late.

Hagman is among those criticizing the president for only meeting with the family of the people who were killed.

"I have several of my, of our, employees who got injured who expressed dissatisfaction that he didn't come out and visit with them as well," Hagman said.

Among those not receiving a presidential visit is Julie Swann Paez. She was shot twice in the pelvis and is now in rehab at Loma Linda. Her son told said Thursday that the family has not heard from White House officials.

“It won’t bring any closure to us,” said Evelyn Godoy, whose sister-in-law, Aurora Godoy, the mother of a toddler, was killed in the attack.

Evelyn Godoy said she didn’t know what her family was hoping to hear. On the one hand, his visit felt like a nice gesture. On the other, when she read in the news that he was stopping on his way to Hawaii for his vacation she couldn’t help but feel “like we were a throw in.”

“At the end of the day my sister-in-law isn’t coming back,” she said. “It doesn’t bring her back.”

Following criticism of his seeming insensitivity to the largest terror attack on U.S. soil since 9/11, Barack Obama is reluctantly making a brief pit stop in San Bernardino to express scripted condolences before continuing his flight to a 5-star multi-million dollar vacation in Hawaii.

Based on his previous comments about the slaughter, we expect him to spend most of his time telling victims’ families how great Muslims are, how important it is not to hold grudges (”especially at a time of year when many Americans, immigrants, and refugees celebrate the holiday of their choice”), and that he’s doing everything in his power to discourage ISIS recruitment by letting terrorists out of Guantanamo Bay.

Of course, it’s not just the people of San Bernardino who are affected and frightened by domestic terror, which is why the president has already issued comforting words on his way to the land of umbrella drinks, pupu platters, and Secret Service protection - saying there are no “specific and credible threats” to the homeland at the moment.

Just like the day before the bloodbath in San Bernardino.
