Tokyo set to OK building of efficient coal power plants
Nikkei Asian Review ^ | December 17, 2015 | Nikkei

Japan will likely allow construction of new efficient coal-fired power plants to continue, even as it aims to reduce the fuel's contribution to its energy mix and cut overall emissions.

The government has outlined regulations on fossil-fuel-based power generation, a major source of greenhouse gas emissions, in the wake of United Nations climate talks that ended in Paris last week. Japan said at the meeting that it intends to cap coal's contribution to its energy mix at 26% by 2030.

Under the new framework agreed to in Paris, nations are required to draw up voluntary targets for measures to fight global warming and review these every five years, but the targets are not binding. With many Japanese government officials arguing that there is no need to ban the construction of new coal-fired power plants outright, Tokyo plans to allow construction only of efficient, high-performance facilities.

The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry will put regulations to that effect in place, having agreed with the Environment Ministry on the necessity of cutting less-efficient plants.

Tokyo also looks to pass its Paris targets on to power producers. The government is moving toward requiring that utilities produce no more than 56% of their electricity through thermal generation by 2030, with half that amount or less coming from coal.

The Japanese are the smartest people on the planet when it comes to pretending to play the PC game while doing what is best for Japan. We could learn a lot from them.

Even their foreign aid consists of sending lots of outdated equipment from Japan to their beneficiary so their beneficiary is forced to hire some Japanese company to maintain it, supply spare parts, build matching rail gauge and the like.

We, on the other hand, send mostly taxpayer dollars which the beneficiary is free to put in their own dictator's pockets or spend with the French.

Once we are rid of Scumbama we can revitalize our coal industry and sell plenty to both Japan and China along with oil and refined petroleum products.

It will be part of the Trump boom that improves the economic well being and the standard of living of all Americans.

But we will need to “Cantor” Ryan and other Rinos like him in 2016.

30 years, wow! I had only about 15, some of the best years of my life. Are you married to a Japanese? Or obtained that coveted permanent residency some other way?

“Chiba Pref. 1988-1994”

We were neighbors then for 6 years as I lived in Kawaguchi , Saitama ( one stop north of Akabane which is in Tokyo ) . Ever check out any of the “ live houses “ in Tokyo when you lived in Chiba ? My band played in a lot of them .

Interesting times. I was very much a family man in those days, three young kids ranging in age from 5-9 when we moved to Kobe.

Any entertainment was on the company tab where we generally stuck close to the neighborhoods of Tsukiji, Ginza and Shinjuku. The former two were within walking distance of company hq., the later was our large exhibition/convention hall which we rented quarterly for a few days.

Only once, I got Shanghaied into one of those waitress bars in Kabuki-Cho but enlisted my boss to stick the client with the tab since it was their choice and not on the list of approved places by our company, which avoided such neighborhoods religiously.

My wife knew what was going on, but trusted me because I was very open with her about where we went. I was also young, virile and made whoopie with her at least every other night, as often as not at her request. A big part of the reason for this was, I think, because she had a very keen sense of smell and feel and wanted to be sure I was actually following the narrow road as I assured her. Keeping a marriage faithful and true is, I think, a big challenge in the business world anywhere but especially so in a big city in Japan where there are so many opportunities to stray.

I hear you , especially considering , in my humble opinion , in a city that has some of the world’s most sensuous , exotic and captivating women in the world ! I had a few female “ friends “ , but always remained “ faithful “ ( sexually ) to my wife . In fact , my wife is the only woman in the world with whom I’ve gone “ all the way “ .

There are several movements along the West Coast to prevent rail coal from Wyoming to be loaded out from Pacific ports. I wonder if the 300-400 years of coal in the PRB will ever see the light of day.

Good for you and agree about the women in Japan. I’m also grateful to my Mrs. for recognition of the temptation potential and making sure I wasn’t.

The coal and oil export business to China and India alone would create a boom on the West Coast and help the states out there with their massive debt. Perhaps the coming change in leadership at all levels will lead them to see the light.

There is always hope.

I’ve read that “greenies” in Portland and Seattle want to prevent crude oil and coal load outs from our shores to Asia. It would seem this would violate interstate commerce rules.
