“I’ve always thought of Jennifer Rubin as among the most shrill and loathsome GOP establishment talking heads”

If anything, you’re being generous.

North Korea is isolationist.

America is not now and never has been “isolationist”. Anyone that claims the nation was is either a cloddish fool or an outright liar.

The second you use “phobia” to describe the opposition

One of the Left's great victories is to make its own reflexes, instincts, and vocabulary mainstream. The twisting of the word "phobia" to mean "expression of disapproval or dislike of anything that I like and approve of" is an example of this mentality - it allows the Left to win arguments by painting the opposing views as some kind of psychiatric disorder rather than a point of view to be discussed and debated.

Calling someone a xenophobe for opposing illegal immigration is like calling a man a bigot for not appreciating squatters trespassing on his property.

Calling someone an isolationist for not wanting to get involved in other countries' civil wars is like calling a man a recluse for not getting involved in strangers' drunken barfights.

Cruz picks up the Rubin endorsement.

Nicely done.

Yes, the article is a shabby attempt to smear by long employed academic tactics, used since the 1940s, to brainwash American College kids into a non-patriotic attitude on world affairs.

For the clear superiority of the Washington/Jefferson foreign policy--which was never "isolationist"--over the fallacious policy that Cruz & Trump have now correctly denounced, see the internet staged "debate," on foreign policy, between Jeb's brother & the clearer vision of George Washington, framed in the precise words of both: George Washington/George W. Bush Debate.

In her view we should topple dictators because they are dictators, and ENFORCE Democracy in it's stead.

I guess these people just don't see the cognitive disconnect of forcing people to have a democracy, whether they want it or not.

Can you imagine that? Replace a perfectly good dictator with chaos and civil war?

If democracy traditionally worked in such areas, it would be there, rather than what amounts to competing tribal factions. The dictators have provided some measure of stability. Removing them starts a free-for-all for power (chaos).

Good observations. Just because someone doesn’t want to intervene in some situations doesn’t make them an “isolationist”. Even the most interventionist neocons don’t want to intervene EVERYWHERE at all times. So why doesn’t Rubin call them isolationists?

A true isolationist would never want to intervene abroad. Most people fall somewhere in between those two extremes, and want to intervene when they think the cause meets some reasonable standard, or is in pursuit of a worthy goal.

more than a few Republicans have gotten distracted from the central focus of keeping this country safe.Cruz is an Ivy League-educated man and knows full well the history of the isolationist America First policy:

Who is this mouse-brained person?
I never heard of it.

Must be a real MENSA graduate to conflate illegal diseased illiterate invaders with "isolationism!"

Well, this article is evidence that Cruz and Trump carried the night in the debate. The WP writers, no doubt, had little sleep last night with their nightmares of a Trump or Cruz presidency.

Or their even worse nightmare...
A Trump/Cruz presidency!

Cruz has also navigated Washington and knows exactly what to do. He’d be a solid VP pick and a solid Supreme Court pick.

Absolutely!
As far as I know, no vice-president has successfully ever been recruited for the Supreme Court.

Using this is the universal signal for 'Ignore me I'm an idiot with nothing of substance to say!".
Nice of idiots to do that and save intelligent people's time!
