Dick Morris: Ted Cruz Won Debate, Rubio 'Got Clobbered'

Watch the video at the link.

Ted Cruz won the fifth Republican debate in Las Vegas on Tuesday, but Donald Trump held his own and Chris Christie "helped himself," political strategist Dick Morris told Newsmax TV.

"Cruz was the big winner tonight," Morris said on the "Newsmax TV Post-Debate Special," hosted by Steve Malzberg. "He was terrific in his speeches. He was aggressive, forceful and really hit it out of the park three or four times.

...

"Trump did very well, not as well as Cruz — but he clearly held his own and showed people why he is so popular," he added.

On the other side, Marco Rubio "was the big loser," Morris said. "He got clobbered in the debate with Cruz and in the debate with Rand Paul."

As for Ben Carson, he "did better in showing himself to be more knowledgeable about foreign affairs and somewhat tougher — but he can't make the grade with the ISIS issue."

The issue of destroying the Islamic State "is killing Carson, because people just don't see the strength in him that they want," Morris said.

But that is helping Christie, especially since Jeb Bush did not fare well.

"Christie helped himself tonight," Morris told Malzberg. "And it is possible, given how pathetic Bush's performance was and how Rubio got lost in those debates that Christie could emerge as the establishment alternative to Trump and Cruz."

-*Sigh*

Please no. This is the same man who confidently predicted a Romney rout in 2012. He’s literally a living human hex. Talk about a kiss of death. If Dick Morris is on your side watch out!

Please, just go away Mr. Toe-licker. Or better yet, fawn over Rubio.

Christie though is really putting on the campaign conservative

Listening closely to his words, fat boy actually came across as a statist who doesn't give a rip about the Bill of Rights. He spoke out repeatedly in favor of indiscriminate invasions of privacy against all Americans under the guise of "national security."

Both Christie and Rubio wanted government to snoop on citizens without probable cause.

Cruz and Paul were against it.

Neither Trump nor Carson had an informed opinion on the issue.

Jeb! looked like he was waiting for Trump to take an opinion so that an opposite opinion could be expressed.

FioRINO advocated a step beyond Christie and Rubio...coercing the tech private sector into spying on Americans for the government.

exactly..Christie is a giant statist...and a gun grabber to boot.

I used to be warm to a Cruz/Rand ticket, I think we saw Cruz and Rand do a nice tag team last night, but still can’t get past Rand siding with McConnell.

Agree with your two points. I didn’t think Trump did badly, just subdued but defusing his “maniac” comment about Cruz - and deflating the questioner was very shrewd. Thought Cruz, Christie and Paul did well. Bush seemed like a petulant, nervous schoolgirl - have no idea how anyone can say he won the debate

Good point. I must have missed that as I had pretty much bagged it after about 2 hours.

Morris might be wrong but Rove can’t get anyone elected even with your money less his 15% cut.

still can't get past Rand siding with McConnell.

Agreed. Rand should become a cabinet secretary for the U.S. Dep't of Education tasked with the sole purpose of disbanding the department and returning the power to the states.

Would have Sarah Palin do the same thing at EPA.

“Rubio got clobbered”

Yeh thanks to Rand Paul who just sliced and diced him like last debate. :-)

Ted Cruz couldn’t have won because Donald Trump said Donald Trump won.

It’s a bit more than “fashionable codes.” When Trump actually decides to is down with military advisors, terms such as “strategic triad” won’t be quite so confusing to him.

A world-wide Drudge poll of every Tom, Dick and Harry isn’t something I’d care to bet the farm on.

Almost all the other polls seem to have registered the same thing, that the viewers thought Trump won.

Personally, I think Trump did fine, as did Cruz. If there were winners, it was them, but they both made some mistakes.

The big loser was the debate itself. The questions were bad, way too many candidates who don't even register at 5%, I think the main thing we all continued to find out was how out of his league Jeb is along with how petulant and whiny Kasich is.

We already know that, and CNN continues to show us why the current media should not be the arbiters of these debates.
