RESIDENTS of a small American town have been absolutely skewered online and found themselves the target of global ridicule after expressing their fears about solar panels.
The good folk of Woodland, North Carolina, have rejected a proposal for a new solar farm amid concerns it would suck up all the energy from the sun.
The motion to build the solar farm near a power plant was rejected during a recent council meeting due to a bizarre array of fears and distrust expressed by locals, reports the Roanoke-Chowan News Herald.

Gonna suck up the Sun!
Sounds like a BS story. I’m sure it was rejected for some other reason besides some moron thinking they’re bad for plants.
A Solar Vortex!
It would suck up all the money from our taxes, maybe they are just mixed up.
I dont believe this as reported, I would like to see another point of view, but I doubt that will happen, once the narrative is out, the rest just pile on.
Almost as dumb as people that believe in AGW.
Two people say something idiotic at a North Carolina town meeting, and the whole town gets slandered by the globalist media.
The town has three solar farms already. The council rejected the rezoning because (1) they are an eyesore, (2) they bring property values down, and (3) the town gets no revenue nor utility discount from them.
No they didn’t reject them because of the two morons that were quoted in the article.
The county this town is in hasn’t voted Republican since William McKinley in 1896. It’s just that stupid.
Plants so the town can be subjected to shaming?
Not long ago, North Carolina was a tech magnet, and perhaps still is.
The MSM folk ain’t that bright. Arrogant B students at best. Dumb #s.
And if a span of solar panels ain’t suckin’ up the Sun, I’m guessing there be some solar Charlatans selling junk energy.

The bias against southerners is alive and well in the liberal media here and abroad. It’s not like they thought the island of Guam would tip over with a few more sailors on it or anything.....
I have to admit - this did make me laugh.
If they build too many, the state might tip over and fall into the ocean.
Great point. I’ll bet that’s what they meant.
About as accurate as leftists believing tax cuts for the rich lead to poverty for the rest.
Correct. It’s only a story because it fits the MSM narrative of stupid white rednecks. And then it’s repeated by credulous leftists because that narrative is their religious dogma
I imagine it was rejected for typical reasons - too expensive, an eyesore, poor planning, etc...
First I’ve heard of this. It would not surprise me if the town rejected the Solar Panels mainly because of the wise-ass or know-it-all attitude of the salespeople. The Solar Panel sales group may not be used to dealing with those who are less than willing to embrace Solar Energy just because the sales group tells them it’s ‘good for the earth’.
There may have been both a generational divide (Boomers and Millineals) and a cultural divide (Northerners and Southerners). If this is the way it was presented, with no humility, and a barely hidden sneer, or lack of patience, it’s much easier to Just Say No. You get more flies with honey vs vinegar.
All those solar panels are gonna cause global cooling!
We had a peculiar nut who showed up at town meetings and talked about aliens and what voices from outer space told him. By ordinance they have to give anyone who shows up at public meetings their 5 minutes. ;-P
