Romney begs the GOP establishment to stop suggesting him as the party's 2016 savior

Mitt Romney has a message for the GOP: Stop trying to make 2016 happen.

The 2012 Republican nominee, who ran and lost in 2008 too, is trying to hush the chatter that he could somehow become the savior of a brokered GOP convention next summer.

'Please let me know who's doing that and I'll have a word with them,' Romney stated. 'I'm not running.'

Romney made an appearance in Mesa, Arizona, on Saturday to support the candidacy of another former GOP nominee, Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., who's running for re-election.

At the appearance, according to the Arizona Republic, Romney tried his best to quash the rumors and show himself to be a team player who was onboard the primary process.

'There are a number of people who I support, who I think would be terrific presidents, whether it's Jeb Bush or Chris Christie or Marco Rubio or Lindsey Graham or Carly Fiorina,' Romney said. 'The list goes on and on.'

'We're going to see how the process works out and I expect that we're going to be very happy,' the former GOP nominee continued.

And so, the opening gambit to draft Romney begins.

Personally, I question whether Romney will have any traction whatsoever.

Why doesn't the RINO establishment try to recruit Juan McAmnesty as well since they both did a such great job at taking a dive on their presidential bids. I guess Marco the Cuban Mexican will have to do for this go around, thus the Hag is a certainty.

I think if it’s brokered, they will turn to Ryan.

All Establishment. All going down in flames.

Maybe he is smart enough to understand how pissed off the base is and does not want to be the rino standing in the end of the elite games that will bring down the GOP forever.

I think if it’s brokered, they will turn to Ryan.

If they try, they'll have a hard time turn Trump, Cruz or Carson delegates. Speaking as someone volunteering for Cruz, Cruz supporters will be Cruz delegates.

The assumption is there’s a deadlock. Through multiple ballots, none of the candidates is able to form a concensus behind him. That’s when a compromise candidate steps in. I think it’ll be Ryan for the same reason he was just made Speaker.

After an hour posting on FR and only a few responses.

Sounds like he’s announcing himself.
And if Arizonans re-elect McCain, there’s just nothing printable I can think of to say.

That makes some sense, and if they try to pull something like that, it will be better for them to do it last minute, before opposition can organize. But they would be ensuring defeat in the general, and the creation of a third party.
