I don’t know why anyone is surprised. Remember last time and Ron Paul? The fix was in for Romney then and it will be this time. The GOPe play kingmaker and expect us to just roll over and take it (like we did with Dole, McCain, Romney). They do not care in the least who the base actually wants - they will do whatever to get the one they want.
Trump is their worst nightmare because they cannot control him.

This is why I’m no longer a Republican and I’m sure as hell not a Democrat......I’m an Independent in a state that is teeming with Republicans who I despise as much as I do Democrats! What Trump and Carson are showing the voters is how sorry the Republicans are and there is indeed a Uniparty in WDC and I hope and pray the American people are seeing it!

Repubs do have over 400 unpledged automatic delegates: GOP office-holders and state RNC members.

The hope among the establishment is that the moderates will unite behind a candidate like Jeb Bush to defeat Trump in a one on one match-up. Trump, Cruz and Carson have together 60% of the vote. Unite all they want, the moderates will not win this nomination.

Repubs do have over 400 unpledged automatic delegates: GOP office-holders and state RNC members. I thought that the GOP got rid of the elitist "superdelegate" concept. But I checked, and you are right. So maybe my hypothetical in post #18 isn't so far-fetched after all.

Hmmmm!!!!!
Well right now my money is on Trump.
He is not naïve but if something like that happened and he was aware of it, I know he would scream so loud they would not get away with it.
I have no worries.

As funny as that sounds, it may be the only way to stop Trump. Make the voter fraud so yuge and obvious as to throw the entire election in doubt. Then have Congress declare that the 22nd amendment failure to qualify clause is in force and throw the election to the House to decide.
Messy, but arguable.

The Insiders don’t care if the Repubs win. They want, at any cost, to stop outsiders from getting control of the party.

Conservatives held their collective noses and voted for McCain and Romney... and the GOPe can just damn well return the favor.
If Trump wins - the GOPe needs to back him. Period.

What makes them think they can win an election? Winning the election isn't important to them. They would be OK with President Pant Suit.
The important thing for them is to ensure that a non-establishment type doesn't win.
