It's a scene football fans have seen hundreds of times, played out on countless fields: players kneeling hand in hand, united in prayer before doing battle on the gridiron.
But one such scene in San Diego is sparking national debate. It unfolded Saturday before the Air Force Academy Falcons lost to the San Diego State Aztecs 27-24 in the Mountain West Conference Championship game at Qualcomm Stadium.
Multiple players knelt to pray, something they do often with, at times, nearly the entire team. Mikey Winstein, president and founder of the Military Religious Freedom Foundation, said Air Force players participating in public prayer "is a scandalous outrage."
"Itâs a disgrace. Itâs a putrid example of fundamentalist Christian supremacy, triumphalism and exceptionalism and it has to stop," Weinstein said. "Those individuals that are dressed in the Air Force uniform; thatâs their uniform of the day. Theyâre members of the military and they are under different rules than the civilian counterparts theyâre playing on the field."

Another First Amendment right that “offends” the commie libs with their college diplomas.
i’m fairly sick of my country being pushed around by the nutty fanaticals.
it’s time we take a stand and start to take our country back
America needs to remember it’s ok to tell someone to f-off if they don’t like what we’re doing. they don’t have to participate if they don’t want... but don’t think for a second we’ll stop doing what we want because they say so.
NBPC. Nuff said.
I can’t believe this is my country anymore.
Not surprised though. The Air Force Academy has removed all reference to Easter on their calendars sold in the gift shops.
Those who still aren’t sure that there is no God get the piss scared out of them every time they see somebody praying.
When people have no conscience they resent other people’s displays of Godly affection.
So many people are perpetually “outraged”...might as well do what you want.
Horrible they are winning taking us over day by day and nobody is stopping them.
The First Amendment guarantees 1) that football players and anyone else can pray publicly and 2) Mikey Weinstein and anyone else can publicly rail against the practice.
[[But one such scene in San Diego is sparking national debate.]]
No it isn’t- there’s no debate the only thing it is sparking is rage and fury by Godless secularists who can’t stand their Creator
Would there be any problem with sports teams having moments of silence before their games?
First would come the national anthem, then for a single silent minute someone would be honored, remembered, or grieved for — for example, the dead after a mass shooting, or a recently deceased figure who contributed to the world, the country, or to the local community.
The silent people would be allowed to do whatever they wanted to do to show respect — get down on their knees, stand on their heads or bow them.
And if any college got taken to court for merely allowing silence, we could all join together in supporting its right to ask for quiet all the way to the Supreme Court if necessary. Freedom of speech must also include the right to remain silent. Or does it these days?
Since college is supposed to be a place to learn, what better way to educate students about the new dictatorship we seem to be living under than a court case involving the right to collectively keep silent just as sports fans have the right to collectively yell, ‘’Rah, rah, team!’’ when they so desire?
One would think that the Military Religious Freedom Foundation would promote religious freedom in the military. Maybe they should change their name to the Abolishment of Military Religious Freedom Foundation.
"It's a disgrace. It's a putrid example of fundamentalist Christian supremacy, triumphalism and exceptionalism and it has to stop," Weinstein said. "Those individuals that are dressed in the Air Force uniform; that's their uniform of the day. They're members of the military and they are under different rules than the civilian counterparts they're playing on the field."The real disgrace is Weinstein making the argument that members of our military and civilians have different rules regarding public prayer implying that civilians are free to express their religious liberty. It's a fact that civilians are also being persecuted and losing their job in America under the exact same circumstances.
For example
Coach Joe Kennedy, an assistant football coach in Bremerton, Washington, who was recently placed on leave by his school district for praying silently on the field. Kennedy has been in the habit of praying at games since 2008, and was often joined by students. He is currently barred from participating in any activities related to the high school football program. The war on Christianity in America is real. We need a President who will reclaim our U.S. Constitution in full, including religious liberty for every citizen guaranteed in the First Amendment.Ted Cruz Announces Religious Liberty Heroes to be Featured at South Carolina Rally

I never even knew such an organization existed- Maybe they should change their name to “Meh- Whatever- we quit”
“They’re members of the military and they are under different rules than the civilian counterparts they’re playing on the field.”
Then... it is not a fair game.
[[The real disgrace is Weinstein making the argument that members of our military]]
Our constitution forbids our military from freely expressing their religious beliefs? I didn’t realize that joining the military meant giving up constitutional protections?
If they did that, then we would have to change PLANNED PARENTHOOD to UNPLANNED AVOIDANCE OF PARENTHOOD.
