The Dec. 6 Forum editorial, âU.S. gun violence is a plague,â relies on a premise that is fundamentally false. The editorial make multiple claims that are contrary to FBI crime data. These are not differences of opinion, or complicated issues where reasonable people can have a respectful disagreement. No, the editorial makes claims of a statistical nature that are simply not supported by evidence. (Notably, the editorial offers no citations for any of its claims.)
To wit, the editorial claims the following:
âThat gun violence is escalating.â
âThe record shows that current laws and attitudes about gun ownership have not made the nation safer.â
âThe proliferation of death and injury from firearms is at epidemic levels.â
All of these statements are completely and utterly false. You can consult the FBIâs Uniform Crime Reporting database, and the FBIâs Crime in the U.S. database, and see what the real numbers are. Violent crime and gun crimes have both been decreasing in the United States for years. Statistically, we are safer than ever before, even as our population continues to grow.
Notably, you did get one thing correct in the editorial: âThere are more guns than ever out there.â That is almost certainly true. So, given that there are more guns and gun owners now than ever before, and given that the gun crime statistics are doing exactly the opposite of what you say they are, could you please do the intellectually honest thing, and retract your flagrantly incorrect editorial?
Your specific claims are false. Your premise is therefore false. Accordingly, your editorial is an embarrassment.
Generally speaking, the anti-firearms mob can’t cite reliable evidence in support of their case.
Thus, rather than do the honorable thing and capitulate, they invent a lot of horse sh*t.
I’ve heard, but don’t have the statistics, that if you back out from the statistics, all the gun violence of youth gangs, and black on black shootings in our cities, that our homicide rate would compare favorably with the countries of Europe which liberals want us to be like.
We know it’s politically incorrect to talk about gang violence. But those crimes have a huge effect on the crime rates liberals talk about. Liberals tell us so many “children” are killed by guns every year. Again, don’t have the stats, but have heard that most “children” killed by guns are older teenagers caught up in gangs.
Nice expose. Unfortunately it is something that every Freeper already knows. We need a massive email attack to crash the newspaper’s email server if the message is going to get through.
Absolutely correct.
The media regularly talk about ‘the firearms deaths of children’ and then include vast numbers of gang bangers who annually kill each other in droves.
Eliminate from the statistics all the deaths caused by blacks and hispanics, and all the gang bangers, and the statistics - already vastly decreased from past years - become negligible.
You need only look at the crime rates in states such as Vermont, Iowa, Minnesota, the Dakotas and the northern Rocky Mountain states lacking certain demographics to find low crime rates comparable to those in Europe which the libtards hold out as models for us to emulate.
And yet, they are not embarrassed.
The reason there are more guns out there is because we have a gun grabbing admiistration. They and we know that when it comes down to power use of force is the lowest common demoninator. Take away the citizens’s ability to defend themselves and they have complete power to make us do whatever they want. And what every tyrant always wants is more of what you have whether it be money, labor, or obedience and they will take every thing they can with an ever increasing appetite. Most people would call that a bully. Why the leftists can’t see that the very goverrnment they support will take everything they have if they become productive and non-parasitic is a “bully” I don’t know (but I can sure guess).
One must have character, a conscience, in order to be capable of embarrassment.
ROTFLMAO. That's like asking a pig to flap his wings and fly.
I think it was a libtard who invented the saying that "Reality is for those who can't handle drugs."
The late great William Buckley related an anecdote about a dinner party he was invited to at which the guest of honor, a well known sociologist, made the comment that if one were to factor out the crime by blacks and Hispanics the crime rate in the U.S. would be like that of Luxembourg.
William F. Buckley was very seldom wrong.
