A Syria-born US citizen was accused of smuggling military-style gear, including rifle scopes, night-vision goggles and bulletproof vests, to Al-Qaeda-affiliated militants. Prosecutors say he planned to take $30,000 worth of items and train people in Syria.

Amin al-Baroudi, a 50-year-old of Syrian descent, is facing four charges of violating US sanctions against Syria, the Associated Press reported.

According to the federal prosecution, al-Baroudi traveled to Turkey from Los Angeles in February 2013 with a total of 14 pieces of checked luggage weighing 619 pounds (about 280 kg). He returned to the US the next month with only two bags. The indictment says al-Baroudi brought scopes, laser sights and tactical vests along with other equipment, which he bought online and from US companies, across the border to Syria.

I guess TSA saw nothing unusual about a single person traveling to Turkey with 14 bags weighing over 600 lbs, but they can manage to find bottles of fluid that exceed 3.4 oz., but can't identify 600-plus pounds of equipment.

Your federal government at work protecting you...

It was just a joke about TSA ignoring 600 pounds of weapon laden luggage while making people throw away their shampoo bottles.

And it was a pun on guerilla/gorilla.

Oh, the humiliation of having to explain a lame joke.....

Well at least it's a more direct route than shipping them thru Libya.

Yep, I missed your joke, too. I don’t think either of us should quit our day jobs to become comics.

Wait a minute, he is being charged but Obama isn’t? Were they both not providing materials & weapons to those fighting against Assad? So why is Obama getting a pass?
