Cheney: Trump Muslim ban 'goes against everything we stand for'

Former Vice President Dick Cheney blasted Donald Trump's Monday call for a "total and complete shutdown" of all Muslims from entering the U.S., saying it goes against the foundation of religious freedom.

Appearing on "The Hugh Hewitt Show," Cheney argued that the proposal "goes against everything we stand for and believe in," adding that his comments follow a "mistaken notion."

"I think this whole notion that somehow we can just say no more Muslims, just ban a whole religion goes against everything we stand for and believe in," Cheney told Hewitt. "I mean, religious freedom's been a very important part of our history and where we came from."

"A lot people — my ancestors got here because they were Puritans. There wasn't anyone here when they came. But it's a mistaken notion," Cheney added.

Trump has called for a ban on all Muslims entering the U.S. "until our country's representatives can figure out what is going on."

"Without looking at the various polling data, it is obvious to anybody the hatred is beyond comprehension," Trump said in the statement. "Where this hatred comes from and why we will have to determine. Until we are able to determine and understand this problem and the dangerous threat it poses, our country cannot be the victims of horrendous attacks by people that believe only in Jihad, and have no sense of reason or respect for human life."

Everything? Really? Everything we stand for? Well, now we have heard from one half of the Bush-Cheney Administration.

Gee, Mr. Cheney, I think you have your loyalties confused. Maybe everything you stand for is more suited to a nation under islamic rule. But for those of us in this republic, we'll stick with God if you please.

Donald Trump demonstrates once again why he is the wrong messenger with the right message. Trump is right Dick Cheney is wrong.

The problem is the American Constitution is simply not designed to cope with a murderous, suicidal, theocracy bent on doing away with the Bill of Rights because the Bill of Rights itself handcuffs the American democracy and prevents it from effectively dealing with Muslims in our midst. The Muslim ideology seeks to exploit the first amendment providing for freedom of religion to overcome the First Amendment provision forbidding establishment of religion. The Muslim strategy is to subvert democracy by obtaining a critical mass of voting power and then to deny non-Muslims the ballot box.

The constitutional guarantees of privacy, free speech, free exercise of religion, equal protection of the laws all work to frustrate government defending itself against a gigantic conspiracy. The only solution for a constitutional republic such as ours, is to prevent Muslims from infiltrating the system. That means they should not be admitted.

As usual, Trump manages to foul up the message by failing to distinguish between Muslims who are already citizens who are constitutionally entitled to enter the country and aliens who are not so entitled. He thus leaves himself open to charges of bigotry etc. which are unnecessary or at least could have been minimized if he had been careful with his language.

Once again Trump is the wrong messenger with the right message.

Saying he “had better things to do” than to serve in the military.
Tricking some people into thinking he’s a conservative.

These idiots know damn good and well that islam is not a religion. Banning muslims today would be no different than banning Nazis in 1942. Or putting Japanese in internment camps. It worked.
