Haven’t these boxy shaped new ships had problems with seaworthiness, ie: severe sea state rolling, listing, bow submarining?
I recall reading that there are concerns regarding the DDG-1000 propensity to get into a severe roll state, depending upon weather conditions, speed and operating state. I honestly haven’t followed the Zumwalt class as closely as perhaps I should, however sometimes you just get a ‘gut’ feeling.
bow submarining? >>>
its a submarine bow that’s what it’s supposed to do. i don’t like it (check out soling https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soling)
Lets hope it’s self righting if turned over like some of those one person sport kayaks.
I have to believe this is the best engineered ship ever built. I cannot imagine that the simulations and prototypes have been twisted, tossed, and turned.
I am sure I would sink it if I were at the helm. But, I guess they have better captains than I.
