US Secretary of State John Kerry warned Saturday about the consequences of any collapse of the Palestinian Authority, saying it would be a threat to Israel, AFP reports.
Kerry said that the level of distrust between the two sides "has never been more profound," calling for an end to the violence before it worsens yet again.
"Without the PA security forces, the IDF (Israel Defense Forces) could be forced to deploy tens of thousands of soldiers to the West Bank indefinitely to fill the void," Kerry said. "Are Israelis prepared for the consequences this would have for their and grandchildren who serve in the IDF when the inevitable friction leads to confrontation...

My guess would be like any other political armed forces, they only help when it is a political advantage...
I haven't heard of one PA force personnel stopping an stabbing attack on a Israel citizen...
Of course our media would never report such a thing anyway...

Israel truly needs an effective deportation “and stay out”, bar from reentry program. Right now it can identify large numbers of individuals who, with their families, are the core of violence against Israel.
Such deportation does not need to be brutal, in fact Israel could give the deportees and their families a stipend that would make them moderately wealthy compared to everyone else in their new land. But no returning to Israel, ever. And in this they must be firm.
Importantly, while the Gaza Strip used to be part of Egypt, and the West Bank part of Jordan, neither of these countries are willing to accept Palestinian deportees, and treat the Palestinians already with them with disdain.
So Israel should consider another alternative: deport them to South Sudan. An impoverished Christian and Animist nation, Israel should pay them to accept the Palestinians. And the South Sudanese will have no illusions about Muslims.
At any time, the Palestinians sent there will be free to go to the brutalitarian Islamic regime of North Sudan; but if they choose to remain in South Sudan, they *must* behave themselves, as the South Sudanese will not tolerate their antics.
This will put them very far away indeed from Israel, so in all likelihood, they will never even try to return, only to face arrest and re-deportation. And the more of them that are gone for good, the more peaceful Israel will be.
