They could NOT get him committed...standards for getting an individual committed usually require that the person be "a danger to himself or others", and in an attempt to make the standard as objective as possible, by now this usually means that the person pretty much has to come right out and actually state an intent to harm himself and/or another - as long as your uncle was only talking to the air or laughing at things that weren't there, he doesn't sound qualified.....

Great, shrinks creating legislation just like they did in Nazi Germany in 1932 with the T-4 Project euthanasia of “mental defectives” at Hadamar Psychiatric Clinic and several other psychiatric clinics. This was where SS guards were trained and methods of mass murder were perfected, first with diesel exhaust vented into the rear of trucks while the trucks went for a drive in the country, and then with zyklon B nerve gas. Oh yeah, they also developed body disposal via crematoria as well.

The first death camps:

Am Spiegelgrund clinic
Bernburg Euthanasia Centre
Brandenburg Euthanasia Centre
Grafeneck Euthanasia Centre
Hadamar Euthanasia Centre
Hartheim Euthanasia Centre
Soldau concentration camp
Sonnenstein Euthanasia Centre

Recent mass murders have given that reform effort traction. And, in an interview, Murphy told The Daily Signal he hopes to refurbish federal laws to better help those who suffer from mental illness before they can harm others.

Do you mean put things back the way they were in the 1960s when we used to lock up the crazies?

Wow. What a CrAzY idea. It's so nutty it might work.

There’s the old “5 W’s” followed by HOW. In particular, How would this effort be implemented? By screening everyone? Punishments if one refused to be screened? And then there’s the inconvenient circumstance that many perps were in fact Overtreated for mental illness. :-)

If they really did that, they would have no customers. No, their job is to keep the revolving door going. Just like Lawyers, Judges with drugs and other crimes.

The root of the violence is fity years of liberal policies.

Murphy’s raising awareness of the need for much more research on the issues of mental illness is a needed START.

Critics of his effect miss the fact that we need more research on how to recognize the early signs/symptoms of mental illness, esp. that kind exhibited by the mass killers.

We don’t even need the government per se to get involved with NIH, etc. Let research centers do it as independent bodies, not arms of the govt.

There were so many signs of abnormal behavior for the Columbine killers, Sandy Hook psycho, Aurora theater shooter, etc. that parents should have known were signs of real trouble.

We need to totally rethink our approach to mental health research. I’ve dealt with a lot of crazy people over the years as a journalist and researcher. Most were not “killer crazy” but their repeated signs of “denial, delusion, and unjustified hostility to people because of their views or religion” said that something was wrong with them.

The question is “Was what they had/exhibited enough to make them a potential threat to the safety of people around them, and in general”?

One kid I very slightly knew in high school, and he was a loner with a strange look on his face, later became a murderer in a foreign country. When I saw his name I said to myself that this was no surprise. I knew something was wrong a long time before he went on his shooting rampage, but back then, people largely put down the “loner” behavior as just that, strange but non-threatening.

I just had an argument with my wife over the concept of “senseless killings”, which is a term the media use over and over again.

No “killing” is senseless to the person who committed it, unless they were completely and uncontrollable out of their mind. Most killer know what they are doing and often deliberately plan the act. That makes “sense” to me that it “made sense to them” in their warped minds.

Our job is to find out more information on how to predict, observe/document and prevent people with serious mental perception problems from turning into killers.

Some people cannot be “saved”, another fact that the Left and some religious people cannot grasp. It is able time that they do, and to realize that some people are just plain crazy, evil and dangers, and can never be reformed, rehabilitated or even allowed to live (Why is Charles Manson still alive?).

Drugs are making more people into killers, esp. PCP, so we also have to take dangerous drug use more seriously than we do now.

It is time that we, as a nation, grew up and faced the harsh reality that we have serious problems with a small but dangerous group of our citizens (and illegal immigrants) that must be challenged immediately for all of us to be safer.

This jive ass quota boy is trying to make it so that if you have any mental issues you cannot own weapons.
Sooo, he will try to say that all ex-military are crazy and then try to take all their guns.
Good luck with that there, punk.

Mental health control huh?

Let’s see...I seem to remember back in time that the Communists, Marxists and Fascist governments controlled those not following their edicts as mentally challenged and put them into mental institutions so that they could get their minds right. Of course, no one wanted to go to the mental institution so they simply followed the other sheep wherever they went.

It’s true and now history is about to repeat itself once again.

The liberals protect the mentally ill by passing laws to conceal thier mental illness when aquiring a gun. You want a fire arm, open your book and lets see your life.

Suicides are at the highest rate in 25 years in this country, so clearly there is something going on. Drug addiction/abuse is probably a significant factor.

Well Said

One of the primary control methods in the Soviet Union was declaring someone mentally ill and institutionalizing them.

You see the trend now in the ever growing DSM V and public statements from Liberals concerning the mental health of conservatives. Some think it is liberal crazy talk, but they fail to see the long game

I think part of it is the massive increase in social media usage, supposedly a ten fold increase between 2005-2015 according to Pew research. Knowing what so many think or are at least willing to say they think about everything instantly from their dumb breakfast to current events might not actually be too healthy for society. It certainly lets wackjobs find other wackjobs to discuss and obsess on their wackjobbery more easily than in the past.

With lawyers and judges, we have accept that there are people out there who can’t live within reasoned societal laws. They habitually make infractions and slip back into the system.

I suppose we could blame attorneys and judges, but there’s only so much they can do. Where the comparison comes in, is that they seem to too often give more lenient sentences hoping a lesson will be learned.

It’s the same with the psychologists to a degree, but here the stakes are so much more clear. Clinically they know they have a time bomb on their hands. They kid themselves they can clinically treat these people and turn them into reasoned players in our society. Ah... no, in some instances they can’t, and they should know that.

These folks go postal and kill. Then they blame the availability of guns when it was simply the availability of those time bombs on the streets.

Some people need to be institutionalized. Touchy feely people can’t man up to this.
