The problem with blacks being unable to catch cabs is how much black cabbies distrust other blacks. Years ago that has-been actor Danny Glover tried to make a stink about this, and the story died quickly when investigative reporters noticed that most of the cabbies passing blacks hailing cabs WERE BLACK THEMSELVES.
A black American co-worker recently bragged how a relative had bought a home and would only use black contractors to fix it up; she is now in court with a couple of them, and my co-worker told her that the whole scheme was a bad idea.

Oh brother. It is their job to pick people up. I wish I had the choice of what I wanted to do at work. Nope I have to do what I am paid to do. Cabbies are not special and should have to pick up who they see needs a cab cuz it is their JOB.

When we returned from living in Africa for a number of years, our kids were enrolled in a 90+% black public school. Our 8 year old son was the only white boy in his class. My wife asked him how school was going and did the other kids treat him?
"Do they treat you with respect?"
"No, ma'am. They don't respect me, they don't respect our (black) teacher, they don't respect each other. Someone needs to put them on a boat and ship them back to Africa to learn manners from the African kids!"
Our kids grew up in Africa playing with African (and 'European' kids). Our son was the first white child our tribe had ever seen. While in college, he was made an honorary member of the African Students Association and wore their sash at graduation. He definitely is not bigoted!
Stupid post. I’ve been in cabs and Uber cars with dozens of foreign drivers. They’re almost universally friendly and excellent drivers.
I have had black people tell me that they will only use white contractors because the blacks do lousy work.
Are you kidding? They are independent businessman, and should be able to maximize their ability for income like anyone else. Should YOU have to do business with people who you know will put you at physical risk or won’t pay?
I remember this. Quite a few black men have found out that the biggest threat to their happiness is other black men. Occasionally someone slips up and admits this in public (Jesse Jackson, Chris Rock, Richard Pryor...)
I would use any contractor with a reputation passed along by word-of-mouth, but would never choose a contractor (of any race) just on racial preferences. Here in NJ we’ve had shady gypsies from Ireland (”tinkers”) who travel here for the summer season, scamming people often in home-improvement projects.

That’s right; Danny Glover picked the wrong hill to die on because he pulled his racial grievance stunt after a number of black gypsy cab drivers had been killed by black robbers posing as fares.
Hey chose your job, chose your fate. Nobody forced them to be cabbies. There are tons of jobs out there. If he can’t handle his job perhaps that is not for him or her. Cops constantly have to deal with people who would kill them in a second. You think it is ok that the say, “Nope not going to that house cuz it is drug infested and I could get hurt?” Not how it works at least in the United States thankfully.
Seems impossible when most have to wait five years after applying to prove their being a good citizen.
Wonder if there are folks in the Atlanta area, working at State Dept, that accept tips to speed up the process?
There is a considerable difference between being a cab driver and a cop. A cop is a public servant. A cab driver is a businessman.
By not picking up a fare he or she is choosing to do the work or not. A police officer gets paid whether he does the job or not. A cab driver does not get paid for avoiding the fare.
