OAKLAND (CBS SF) – The Alameda County District Attorney has dropped charges against 14 Black Lives Matter protesters who disrupted BART service on the day after Thanksgiving in 2014.

District Attorney Nancy O’Malley’s office said in a statement that they are not seeking convictions after the protesters participated in a restorative justice process. Among the goals of the process, protests would not interfere with BART service over the 2015 Thanksgiving holiday weekend.

Protesters, which have been called the “Black Friday 14,” chained themselves to trains at the West Oakland station on November 28, 2014, halting service for more than two and a half hours.

Earlier this year, the BART board dropped its call for the protesters to pay $70,000 in damages over the protest.

I noticed that part too. At least it's for one year only! (It seems to me that there are no "promises" for 2016 and after.)

“Protesters had to acknowledge that their action “conveyed an important message,””

That’ll learn ‘em!

Blacks are no longer held accountable under laws theyd totally enforce on anyone else.

We are letting the savages have free reign. I hope the law enforcement lawyers and judges are the first touched by this crowd.

My thanks! I needed a reminder to purchase some pepper spray for appropriate instances.

I heard the discussion on KCBS 740 am tonight. The SF Chronicle “expert” said the protestors promised to not interrupt service this year but no promise about next year.

The problem is that the case was taking a lot of time from the DA office.

The solution is to wave the penalty and throw it out the window.

The history is that the DA has waved many protest penalties in the past.

What about the shoppers and workers trying to get into the City for Black Friday 2014? Oh well. Their suffering was temporary.

Prayers for better leadership in Oakland and San Francisco. Prayers for Kate Steinle’s family.
