Turkey may not be in the Mosul area to attack ISIS or train Iraqi troops, as other stories have claimed.

This is interesting.
Maybe a little playing off of Russia against US, and what about the Kurds... and all that oil?

Why would Turkey attack their oil business partner?

Didn’t the Iraq PM mention several weeks ago he would consider asking Russia for help against ISIS?

Maybe this is Turkey’s way of recalling ISIS, with Iraqi suspecting that Turkey might stay for awhile.

If the Russian narrative is correct, Turkey is not attacking ISIS, but replacing them.

Mosul is an important Iraqi asset. If it turns out the Turks have backed ISIS all along, we are starting to see them play their hand.

From the PM Iraq's website:

http://pmo.iq/pme/press2015en/5-12-20151en.htm

Prime Minister's Media Office: The Iraqi government calls on Turkey to respect good neighbourly relations and to withdraw immediately from the Iraqi territory

Dec 3 2015

It has been confirmed to us that Turkish troops numbering around one regiment armoured with tanks and artillery entered the Iraqi territory, and specifically the province of Nineveh claim that they are training Iraqi groups without the request or authorization from the Iraqi federal authorities and this is considered a serious breach of Iraqi sovereignty and does not conform with the good neighbourly relations between Iraq and Turkey.

The Iraqi authorities call on Turkey to respect good neighbourly relations and to withdraw immediately from the Iraqi territory. Prime Minister's Media Office

Iraq and Syria both requested Russian assistance.

One forgets, before 9-11, Russia had huge investments in Iraq.

And of course, Syria and Russia have been allies for 50 years.

“Turkey may not be in the Mosul area to attack ISIS or train Iraqi troops, as other stories have claimed.”

Turkey is probably there to:

a. Support ISIS
b. Attack the PKK Kurds
C. Both

Nineveh Province, where Mosul is, also has a main concentration of Iraq’s ethnic Turks (Turkmen). They could be forming a militia from that population.

And, continue to profit from the oil trade even though Russia is screwing things up in Syria.
