GOP braces for long battle against Trump (GOP is becoming completely unglued)

(CNN) —Donald Trump, defying skeptics and overcoming an avalanche of mockery from establishment Republicans, has extended his streak as the party's presidential frontrunner for almost five months.

With the Iowa caucuses less than two months away, Republican leaders are growing deeply alarmed by Trump's resilience. Anxious that his lead may not fade before the voting starts, GOP strategists have begun to brace for a long and painful nomination fight, with Trump's opponents hoping to grind him down over a period of months.

In a new CNN/ORC poll released Friday, Trump leads the GOP field of White House hopefuls at 36% --- his broadest support this cycle. In a distant second place is Ted Cruz at 16%, giving Trump his widest lead this year, followed by Ben Carson at 14% and Marco Rubio at 12%. Just two days before, a Quinnipiac University poll showed Trump on top at 27%, followed by Rubio at 17% and Carson and Cruz tied at 16%.

The back-to-back polls are yet another confirmation of Trump's remarkable ability to withstand an onslaught of criticism. Since launching his campaign in June, the billionaire has barreled from the center of one controversy to the next, repeatedly bypassing predictions of demise from all corners of the political world.

Another article, demonstrating Trump is right, the GOP is wrong, and yet another week to the election is now over.

Trump had a great week.

Big crowds at every meeting, despite some weather challenges.

Either trump wins as a republican or he is forced to run 3rd party destroying the gop.

I am fine with either scenario.

Apparently they are not at all alarmed by the fact that our country is on the brink of destruction, only that they are in danger of losing their power.

They haven't reached the bargaining stage of grief yet. (They will lose that).

I think they have accepted a Trump nomination and are scurrying for their RINO senators like Ayotte and Portman.

Absolutely true that Trump won't have cost tails for them or their ilk.

“GOP strategists have begun to brace for a long and painful nomination fight, with Trump’s opponents hoping to grind him down over a period of months.”

Who are these so called “GOP strategists.” The only people mentioned in the article were a retired governor and a retired representative.

These GOP strategist are empty shells who have lost touch with the American people. They have nothing to offer and see their only purpose as attacking other Republican candidates and trying to destroy them.

If it was Bush or Rubio so far in the lead, there would be calls for the lower tier to drop out to coalesce around the strongest candidate

NOBODY who wants to import more illegals is going to get the nomination.

PERIOD.

That means either Trump, or Cruz.

I like Trump/Cruz, myself.

I hope NOBODY who's nominated has coat tails long enough to save Ayotte. The *itch campaigned as a conservative, and didn't even wait to unpack in DC before she traitored her core voters.

Trump will be better off dealing with a democrat from NH, new to the Senate, and probably having to espouse some of Trump's issues to get elected.

Gosh, I do despise women who get ahead using the "I am woman" card, get what they want, and then prove to have absolutely no scruples or integrity.

I don’t think that the GOP is quite there yet, either. Their warnings about a senate GOP bloodbath if Trump gets the nomination are the latest gambit to try and shake his support. Don’t know why they think that would work. I mean, lookat, the GOP senate has largely sat on it’s hands because the moderate leadership thinks it’s more important to demonstrate “that they can govern” by cooperating with Oma-Mao. Does anybody think that the average Trump supporter would shed a tear if, say, Susan Collins and her ilk went down to defeat?

The GOP has the House. They say “Give us the Senate”. They get the Senate, and it’s not enough. They say “give us the White House”. But apparently they only want the White House if they get “Their Handpicked Guy”. You know what? You take who the voters give you and you work with that.

Trump could be the nominee if he doesn’t start to be “conciliatory” like his Bush-style opponents claim to be.

People in NH won’t figure out for years that she has no integrity.

Don’t media say that big crowds mean nothing unless it’s a Democrat with the crowds? They note that Goldwater had some big crowds in 1964 too, and look how he turned out, bad over the long haul.

I’m just saying.

Trump is packing them in, all around the country.

Nobody else has crowds like he does.

In either party. Nobody.
