I almost drove off the road laughing so hard at a comment on that very subject from one of the characters on Don Imus’ radio show. He pointed out that the air in the U.S. is very clean, while Beijing “looks like the inside of Willie Nelson’s bus.” LOL.
We also footed the bills for the invention, development, implementation and refinement for anti pollution technologies the rest of the world now uses and takes for granted.
Carbon dioxide is a natural and vital part of the earths ecosystems and a vital part of the Earth's Carbon Cycle which plants, alge, plankton and many microbes rely on for food. Any increase in CO2 in the atmosphere will quickly get consumed and offset by an increase in plant life
CO2 is a trace gas which makes up only 0.4 % of the Earth's atmosphere so it's climate impact is minimal and the levels of atmospheric CO2 are also easily reversible in a very short time span if we ever go past a threshold where global warming is a concern.
We now have very extensive space and ground based monitoring systems that effectively act as early warning systems for any man made climate changes due to CO2 so we will have decades of warning if and when there are any significant warming, which is highly unlikely to occur in any event.
If we do see warming and determine this warming is a bad thing instead of a good thing ( which is more likely the case), all we need to do is slow emissions and let Earth's normal eaters of CO2 in the Carbon Cycle do their thing and bring our CO2 levels back down to lower levels
