US rejects Russian charge that Turkey buys ISIS oil

The United States strongly denied on Wednesday a Russian claim that the Turkish government buys smuggled Syrian oil from the Islamic State (ISIS) jihadist group.

A State Department spokesman admitted that there was a longstanding issue of oil being illegally transported to Turkey from wells in what is now ISIS territory.

But he said the tanker trucks are operated by private smugglers, not directly by the ISIS terror group, and Turkey is working with its NATO allies to seal its border.

"We reject, outright, the premise that the Turkish government is in league with ISIL to smuggle oil across its borders," spokesman Mark Toner said, using another acronym for ISIS. "And we frankly see no evidence, none, to support such an accusation."

Toner said Turkey had begun steps to seal an exposed section of its frontier with an ISIS-controlled region of Syria through which much of the trade passes.

"It's a decades-old practice, frankly that predates ISIL, of illicit trade in this region," he said.

"What we have seen is that ISIL relinquishes ownership and sells its oil at the wellhead in Syria and Iraq and that oil is sold to smugglers, middlemen, truckers."

Toner said some of the oil sold by the IS group is bought by the regime of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, an ally of Russia, and some is smuggled out of the country.

Why did this take them over a week to respond in the information age?

Answer: Because they were searching for a good excuse of why this was allowed.

Since they could not come up with something good. Now they say they reject it because they cannot simply defend it.

they’re attempting to create a distinction without a difference. Smugglers that WORK for ISIS that transport oil to Turkey. ISIS allow this to happen in their territory. Turkey allow this to happen in their territory. If they didn’t, you would think they would put a stop to it

Somebody is buying the oil being transported in those tanker trucks. There are supposedly drones all over the place. How hard can it be to see where those tankers are going? Known pipelines exist. This is a smokescreen, someone is hiding something and my guess is Turkey and the US.

Who cares if it’s middlemen doing the transporting? A distinction without a difference.

REmember when Cuba lied about having missiles, and then we went and proved them wrong, or when Russia shot down that airliner, and REagan went to the UN and showed they lied...

I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to see Russia do this back to us, and show on the world stage that Obama and company are lying... and in fact open up the whole can of worms... and out Obama as being the phony he is...

ISIL does not exist but is used by Obama
to protect ISIS,
which was begun by .... Obama
who is congenitally unable to tell the truth
about anything.

Therefore, the Russians are more believable.

I reject the US rejection of Russia’s charge that Turkey is buying ISIS oil.

There. Take that.

Obama Admin. wants to be against Russia regardless of the facts or what is right and wrong. Why? I’m guessing it’s because they support ISIS themselves. They want ISIS to take out Assad, or so it appears to me.

US rejects Russian charge that Turkey buys ISIS oil

That is truly odd...

Outside of the White House, it's been common knowledge worldwide for many months.

"The United States strongly denied on Wednesday a Russian claim that the Turkish government buys smuggled Syrian oil from the Islamic State (ISIS) jihadist group."

This is a very carefully worded denial, and therefore meaningless. Of course the government of Turkey is not buying oil from ISIS -- why would a corrupt despot share a 50% windfall profit with his fellow countrymen? What the State Department did not deny is that the Turkish president's four children are other well-connected Turks are buying oil from ISIS at a 50% discount. Erdogan's eldest son Ahmet Burak Erodogan owns MB Shipping, which operates out of North Cyprus, while Bilal, Mustafa and Ziya Erodgan operate BMZ Group and its larger tanker fleet out of Turkey and Malta.

“But he said the tanker trucks are operated by private smugglers, not directly by the ISIS terror group, and Turkey is working with its NATO allies to seal its border”

The smugglers are running 400 to 500 trucks a day. ISIS cant control them. And Turkey doesn’t control them. Our government has finally become the USSR or America. Everything they say is a baldfaced lie.
