Over the past two weeks, Harvard and Princeton have decided to stop using the word âmasterâ in their residential college housing systems.
On Tuesday, Harvard College Dean Rakesh Khurana sent an email to all Harvard students announcing that undergraduate residential âhouse masters,â with the support of Harvard President Drew Faust and Faculty of Arts and Sciences Dean Michael D. Smith, had unanimously expressed a desire to change their title. As such, Harvard College will soon launch a process that culminates with a suggested replacement title, to be announced at some point early next year. The Harvard announcement comes less than two weeks after Princeton University announced it would immediately change the title of âmaster of the residential collegeâ to âhead of collegeâ amid discussions about racism and discrimination on college campuses nationwide, including a call by student activists to remove the name of former U.S. President Woodrow Wilson from campus buildings and the School of Public and International Affairs.
At Yale, the University has yet to decide whether to replace the title of master, months after religious studies professor Stephen Davis sparked campus dialogue on the subject when he asked students in his college to refer to him as the âheadâ of Pierson College rather than the âmaster.â (...)

Can you have “master” without “slave?” My background is computers, LOL.
From now on the Masters and the faculty will be slaves to the spoiled brats.
Can someone still get a Master’s Degree or would it be a “Head of College Degree”.
.
As an unfortunate unintended consequence, all Harvard masters degrees are now invalid.
Can Tiger Woods play in the MASTER’S TOURNAMENT ?
~Ministry of Free Speech Chairman,
His Excellency, Climate Change Scammer for Life, Field Marshal Al Hadji Doctor Sheldon Whitehouse , VC, DSO, MC, Lord of All the Beasts of the Earth and Fishes of the Seas and Conqueror of America in General and Rhode Island in Particular and uncrowned King of Scotland
BACHELOR is next to go.
Chess masters and grandmasters will be disappointed. My master bedroom could be seen as awkward. I guess we can start calling the original recordings “originals” instead of “masters”.
We have to make those changes. We don’t want to put our delicate snowflakes in a black mood.
I remember... somebody had to be in charge of the interface.
In a group living situation, that would correspond to a supervisor in an otherwise unoccupied house.
I guess they can’t change the title to “house captain” because of military connotations. I’ve got it: “House Leader”... like our Dear Leader.

Hmmm ! I don’t know.
I’ll call RCA and check with His Master’s Voice.
.
House Bitch, then?
Harvard has always tried to be an ersatz Cambridge (UK) or Oxford (UK) University.
As such, it tried (still does) to ape the UK constituent college system, where you have a bunch of halls or colleges run by a Master, and he oversees the Fellows (professors and lecturers) attached to a given college.
Yale, Princeton, and Harvard all try to do this aping and they have these goofy dorms that pretend to be a constituent college of the university.
Shame that they know so little about classical education from 1100 A.D. on... It is an obscenity that they are enrolled in these formerly great schools, get it paid for, and all the while taking the place of a good conservative kid excluded by their commie admissions process.
Truly pearls before swine trying to educate these little animals.
How about “House Wardens”?
I think we had “Resident Administrators” or something with the word “Resident” in it.
Leave it to Harvard to cave in on another ridiculous PC thingy.
