A San Francisco police officer known as the "Hot Cop of Castro" was arrested 12 hours after allegedly hitting two pedestrians in North Beach early Sunday morning - too long after the incident for a drunk driving test to be administered.

Officer Christopher Kohrs, 38, was arrested and booked into County Jail on Sunday afternoon on two felony counts of hit-and-run after turning himself in at the new Public Safety Building on 3rd Street.

The seven-year department veteran entered the jail at 2:38 p.m. Sunday and was promptly released on bail at 4 p.m. on a $100,000 bond.

This means he was in his right mind and NOT under the influence, and still fled.

If I were the lawyer, I would drive this point home. He had no excuse.

Somebody ran into a brick mailbox in my neighborhood late one night and demolished it.

The next afternion the guy who did it (he also lives in the neighborhood) showed up at the lady’s house to apologize. He said it was late and no one was hurt so he didn’t want to wake her up in the middle of the night.

I thought to myself he was probably drunk and didn’t want to get caught.

Or maybe he just didn't want to wake anybody up.

If he was drunk, he probably never would have stopped by to apologize.

He was going way too fast for conditions to lose control and completely take out a brick and mortar mailbox.

Maybe he wasn’t drunk, but it looked like a single car accident involving controlled substances. His car was damaged badly enough do that a neighbor probably would have figured it out, so he had some incentive to ‘fess up.

It worked for Teddy Kennedy in 1969 (before this cop was even born).

“This means he was in his right mind and NOT under the influence, and still fled.”

Not necessarily. He could still have had a BAC to blow > .08 and still have the presence of mind to run. It actually was the best thing he could have done given the circumstances.

He will be brought up on felony hit and run and probably represented by a POA lawyer. I expect the SFPD MCD, the SFPD name for Internal Affairs to try for an indictment. The MCD is deliberately staffed by the most incompetent legal staff so as to minimize their indictment rate. The case will be referred to the DA’s office, George Gascon
aka “The Magic Cuban” who will probably decline to prosecute due to the botched MCD work.

The victims although seriously injured will probably recover and get a seven figure settlement from SF. Whether Kohr remains employed will be dependent on Chief Suhrs recommendation to the Police Commission. The PD knows Kohrs was most likely DUI but cannot prove it.
