Something doesn't pass the "smell test" here:

Nice run-around but I question how ^MAYOR^ Mary Becker, as current mayor is not the incumbent of the recent election and that Merrill Sanford can be cited as The Incumbent.
Again, the sniff test tells me that we are dealing with “urine-o-list” types.

From my understanding reading the article, ,Becker was named acting Mayor after the death. Poorly written, but I assume the new mayor was already in office.
Because he was defeated in the Oct. election and the mayor and council have since been seated.

Yeah, looking back, it appears that Mary was...what?...vice-mayor or LFT Mayor and was in line to take over.

Yes he was elected in early Oct. and sworn in on Oct. 20, 2015.
The previous mayor is no longer a part of the city council/gov’t.
In summary from the local news link below, the deceased was elected in October, handily defeating the incumbent, and sworn in the same month. He was 70 years of age and was found dead in his home by his son. No evidence of forced entry was found. But since the two possibilities for a cause mentioned by the police were a fall or an assault, I’d have to guess that the body showed some signs of trauma. They will transport the body to Anchorage for an autopsy. The deputy mayor, Mary Becker, has been appointed “acting mayor” and at a time to be determined a special election will be held to elect a permanent replacement.
Well my uncle think it home invasion that he is thinking there is part of Fairbanks Juneau and even Anchorage that lower 48 gangstras coming up to Alaska
