AURORA, Colo. - One person is dead after reportedly attacking an Aurora Police officer from behind, then leading officers on a chase that ended with an officer-involved shooting early Monday morning
Aurora Police chased the suspect at speeds of up to 65 miles per hour, after an officer was struck from behind with a sharp object at I-225 and Alameda at approximately 3:43 a.m.
Police chased the suspect about three miles -- to East Alameda Parkway and East Kentucky Avenue.
"Short pursuit of vehicle ended at Alameda & Kentucky where shots were fired," Aurora Police tweeted.
A lieutenant with the Major Crimes Unit of the Aurora Police Department said during a press conference the suspect got out of the vehicle and was told repeatedly to put his hands up and comply with law enforcement. The suspect was then shot after officers saw he had an object in his right hand.
The suspect died at the scene, the lieutenant said, and officers said they do not know what that object was at this point.
âHonestly, we have no idea why this attack took place," said the lieutenant. "Our officer simply stopped to render aid when he was attacked."
The officer has serious injuries but is expected to survive, officials said. Aurora Police Chief Nick Metz showed a graphic photo of the wound, which showed a deep gash on the right-side part of his temple.
"To be be viciously attacked like that in the middle of what would be a Good Samaritan act, itâs pretty alarming.â said Metz. "I feel feel comfortable in saying that I believe this was an attempted murder on my officer.â
A witness told Denver7 he saw the suspect steal a patrol car at the crash scene.
Carlos Morales said he was working doing snow removal when he heard multiple shots.
"When I looked up I seen the officer running behind one of the squad cars. That's when he was firing. Then I seen the squad car do a u-turn and come back toward the officer," Morales said. "When he was coming back toward the officer that's when I seen the officer shoot another 10-15 bullets into the squad car."
Morales said he saw police take two people into custody there.
Morales captured video of officers approaching a vehicle with guns drawn.
In the video, you can hear a woman shouting, "Hands up!"
All three officers involved in this incident have been placed on administrative leave pending the investigation, which is in its early stages.
Streets were closed near the shooting scene for several hours.

Must be something in the water out there!
I think it’s something in the water all over the planet. Seems like things are getting crazier by the day.
Off topic, but this one came up after the link you posted. Nice, melancholy song:

On topic, I was taking little girl to school today and we passed by the aftermath of this. I didn’t know what had happened at the time. I’m glad the officer wasn’t killed. Pretty awful that he goes to render aid, and gets whacked in the head. Hopefully can figure out what kind of motive, if possible. It’s a shame there are crazies in the world, but I’m not sorry that this one was taken out.
“Dumbass should have stolen a Prius...”
Why, better gas mileage while being chased?
This article is another example of pisspoor reporting but coming from Colorado, I would expect it.
If the perp stole a police car, it should be mentioned in the first paragraph, not somewhere down near the end of the article.
Let’s see if they fully identify the perps and how long it takes them to do so.
Gee, I didn’t know violent Pennsylvania AMISH were operating in Colorado. Shame on thee, brother!
That’s gonna leave a mark....
Side note...gas was $1.67 at the Sam’s Club here in Aurora, CO today.
Yes. The world is indeed going mad. Compared to my youth the advance of evil is unbelievable. The decay of individual morality breathtaking.
I blame the police and their hateful rhetoric for causing this!
