The rise of liberal intolerance in America
Financial Times ^

Posted on 11/29/2015 6:17:19 PM PST by bryan999

It ought to be a triumphal moment for American liberalism. In the space of a few years gay marriage has been accepted, marijuana has been legalised, America has twice elected its first black president and may well be gearing up to elect its first woman. Yet the revival of political correctness on US campuses — and the increasingly shrill tone of much of the intellectual left — tells another story. Instead of championing free speech, the left is trying to shut it down. In the name of diversity, it demands conformity. At stake is the character of US democracy. If elite Ivy League schools cannot stand the heat, what kind of kitchen will it be?

Far from outgrowing race, the PC movement is entrenching it. Princeton students this month occupied the university president’s office demanding the name Woodrow Wilson — America’s 28th president and former head of Princeton — be scrubbed from campus. That included the prestigious Woodrow Wilson School of Public Policy and International Affairs, residential halls and a mural of him in the dining hall. Protesters also demanded “cultural competency training” for faculty members and the introduction of mandatory courses on marginalised peoples.

I think all of this nonsense is the result of flavored coffee.

Real Americans drink coffee straight and black.

Actually, I use sweetener and cream, but still...

I blame Starbucks!

The only thing that keeps these people from setting up concentration camps, extermination squads and thought police is the Second Amendment.

The only thing.

Liberals have never been tolerant.

They have tried to force "my way or death" down peoples throat since they first crawled out of the primordial slime and oozed into civilization.

Completely incapable of building anything on their own they want to control what other people create for the sheer joy of bossing people around.

I was just reading an essay by Ayn Rand about the student rebellion at Berkeley, written in 1965, and it could have been written today. As always, the more the administration gives in to their demands, the more outrageous the demands become. The more provocative the behavior becomes. And the profs who think their own liberalism protects them are always shocked to find that they are targets of some manufactured offense.

They should have learned from that Japenese General who said:

“I fear all we have done is to awaken a sleeping giant and fill him with a terrible resolve.”

These aren't liberals. They aren't even progressives. They're fascists. With just a touch more economic idiocy - many are already there - they'd be communists.

Reason won't touch it. An insistence on the law won't touch it. This is organized violence and what will touch it is opposing violence, and if the state won't employ it the citizens will. Where the state is in sympathy with it, and the current administration in Washington DC is, then it will not oppose it at all, and the current administration isn't. What happens next is on their heads.

The “progressives” are simply NAZIs witha shiny new wrapper.

Edward Luce is the Financial Times chief columnist and commentator in the United States. He is a British national. It’s sad when a foreign citizen can see clearly what the left is doing to the nation with all of the PC nonsense, but a good many of our citizens don’t have a freaking clue or don’t care that their freedoms are being jeopardized by these people.

Liberalism has never been about tolerance. It has always been about forcing a socialist totalitarian government on us all.

I take mine with half a spoon of raw sugar and a small splash of milk; and, I’m damn happy about it. As for the liberal tyrants, they are after power. They want nothing more and nothing less.

Was it called Mario Savio, son of Immanuel Kant, or something like that?

These candy-ass motherfuckers don't even know what they're doing.

When Christian virtue is tossed aside as a national ethos, I'm just not sure what they think keeps us from killing them all.

Similar to a line in the Wall Street Journal recently.

I'm paraphrasing but essentially it said now that the leftists have control of the narrative and the power, through noise and intimidation, they are no longer interested in free speech.

As Michael Savage has always said, scratch the surface of a lib and you'll find a totalitarian underneath.

What happens to the “useful idiots” when they’re no longer useful?
