Donald Trump under fire for mocking disabled reporter

Republican presidential contender Donald Trump has been criticised for mocking a disabled New York Times reporter.

Mr Trump performed an impression of Serge Kovaleski, who suffers from a congenital joint condition, at a rally.

He has used a 2001 article by Mr Kovaleski to back up widely disputed claims that "thousands" of Muslims in New Jersey celebrated the 9/11 attacks.

The New York Times called Mr Trump's actions "outrageous".

The guy himself. Says he covered Trump for several years while a reporter at the NY Daily News, interacted with him in person at least a dozen times.

To judge the question objectively, you need to know if
1. Trump has seen the guy in person;
2. If so, how may times;
3. How recently (eg: if it was 20 years ago, Trump would very likely not remember what he looked like);
4. Was the handicap as obvious at the time as it is in current photographs of the guy;

Just a few examples.

You reveal more about who and what you are. Your screen name is likely a diversion, an inaccurate lie, like Rightward Ho! and others who have been outed as trolls.

To respond, you have to ask why this reporter can’t seem to remember what he wrote 14 years ago about 9/11 and yet he remembers vividly that he met Trump that many years ago.

You seem to ignore that the reporter is with the NY Times which is in league with calling out an agent of Goebbels. The NY Times is occupied by a group of no good lying scum and this reporter is thick in that.

But you believe him at face value.

Calling out this reporter’s disability has no gain for Donald Trump and where there is no gain Trump does not involve himself.

There are hundreds of eye witnesses to Muslims celebrating when the twin towers were hit. And if you’ve ever walked through Jersey City, then you have every expectation of knowing what Donald Trump said is true. Even this scumbag reporter wrote 14 years ago what Trump said and now 14 years later this scumbag wants to retract it. So Donald got on stage and did some spastic body language to emphasize this scumbag’s reversal, not his disability. And the lying fags at the NY Times twisted Trump’s body language into an attack on disabled persons; 1000% BULLSHIT!

I have family and old friends in Manhattan and I talked with them yesterday at length. One of them called a friend who was living in Jersey City at the time and confirmed the f*cking radicalized Muslims were grinning and carrying on in celebration in Jersey City and that Trump was right. I asked why weren’t videos or photos taken and the response was there weren’t smartphones back then and the horror of what was happening was focused on the towers. It wouldn’t matter anyways because even this scumbag NY Times reporter who wrote and corraborated what Trump is saying began backpedaling when he and his scumbag coworkers heard it was Trump that was making the reference. I guarangoddamtee you if it was Hillary making the comments that Trump made, the NY Times would be backing the comments 100% and this scumbag reporter would be saying “Yep! What she said!” .

The left which you apparently subscribe to has for years developed and foisted the “I don’t give a sh*t what you think; f*ck you!” attitude and now when Americans are turning the same attitude on them they are whining. Standby because it’s going to get much worse for them, much worse. They can cry disability, nativism, nazism, extremism and everything in-between and it won’t stick because people are now so fed up with these scumbags that no ‘words’ or name-calling will deter what awaits them.

Don’t be silly.

Reporters lie.

That is what the entire question of muslims celebrating in the streets is all about.

If you want to side with the lying press, by all means do so.

They are nothing more than fifth columnists to me.

I saw the video a number of times. He asked the Iowa audience “Are you. Stupid....are Americans stupid?”

In your vicious little mind, anyone who asks any question about Trump or expresses the slightest doubt about his candidacy is branded a traitor and subject to your self-righteous disdain. If anyone is acting like a drooling, psychophantic raving liberal, it is you. That is their style and their method: anyone who exhibits the slightest disagreement is to be subjected to personal attacks, their loyalty questioned and their motives defamed.

I like Donald Trump’s campaign, insofar as I despise the leftist media and their PC tyranny as much as any person I know and he is kicking them in the balls every day and exposing their lies and hypocrisy every time. An awful lot of people on FR feel that way. But they don’t have to be silent if there are questions about his candidacy. It was not unreasonable to view the video in question and think that he was making fun of a handicapped person. If that were the case, it would reflect very poorly on the candidate. I said so here on this thread. I did not write a letter to the NY Slimes saying Trump should be dumped or expressing any outrage at all. If it comes out that he really wasn’t making fun of the guy’s handicap, fine. So far, it remains an open question. But here on this forum, there is nothing wrong with discussing the question and saying, if he did it, it would be a strike against him.

Please do me a favor and spare me another baseless harangue. You have already made the point that you are an insufferable jerk. No need to drive that home any more.

Why do you and others who support Trump feel compelled to make this personal? I watched the video. It appeared to me that he was mimicking the reporter. Others have expressed reasons that that may not be so and its just another case of the media drumming up phony outrage. Is there a prohibition on discussing the point? Does asking questions make me silly? Did I suggest that reporters don’t lie? The simple fact that the guy covered Trump should be extremely easy to fact check and not really subject to obfuscation: he either did or he didn’t. If he did, it is reasonable to assume that, at one time, Trump saw him and saw his disfigured hand/arm. At the same time, it is reasonable to assume that, if it happened 20 years ago, Trump would not likely remember that detail.

Do I care if you ask questions?

Knock yourself out. You could be on the trail of the greatest scandal of the campaign!

(Though I seriously doubt it.)

Yes, and you are the picture of calmness and sanity.

All I have done is mildly disagree with you, and tease you a little.

For goodness’ sake, for your own sake, ease up a little.

You and I weren’t even arguing. I just don’t take your premise seriously.

I think that is allowed on, as you say, a discussion forum.

Seriously, your response is all out of proportion. It doesn’t seem healthy.

You can call me all the names you want, it doesn’t phase me in the least. You say you like Donald Trump? Liar.

You are in with the scumbags at the NY Times as EVIDENCED by your carrying their talking points.

Here’s a site where you would fit in more appropriately:

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/gay-voices/

I would welcome your views if there were any value to them but when you carry the NY Times smear tactics forward, your contribution is worth less than zero.

Funny, but sad. I've had some of my posts pulled (there's one chick who's a notorious tattler and simply won't stand for any snark against Trump...and the mods comply...without any explanation of which rule I broke). Additionally, I've been told I don't have the right to post negatively about Trump because I don't pay to play. (For clarity, this comment did NOT come from any official of FR. It was just another Trump worshiping FReeper).

I read all the excuses and explanations for Trump's behavior with the same disbelief I experience when I hear Juan Williams try to justify Obama's nonsense. My level of incredulity would be difficult to overstate.

For the record, I do believe that Trump was mocking the reporter's disability. The man has no filter nor has he been required to by his adoring public. In fact, the more obnoxiously he behaves, the more he's rewarded in the polls. I love political incorrectness as much as the next person, but I know the difference between political incorrectness and rudeness.

Political correctness is destroying our society. Sad to see some conservatives starting to buy into it.

Not sure what your reply to me means, but I don’t buy into political correctness. Disagreeing with Trump and his antics is not the equivalent of buying into political correctness.

Well when you criticized Trump for "making fun" of that reporter, that's exactly what you did.

Many disabled people resent being patronized and treated as small children that need protection from others. They find that insulting. Let the reporter have it out with Trump if he feels he was treated unfairly. Whatever handicap he has, I doubt it affects his wits and his ability to verbally defend himself.

Same goes for race relations. We will never truly integrate our society if white people must always walk on eggshells around black people out of fear of "offending" them. This is why most black people think white people are a bunch of tightly-wound boring squares. Because that is how they act around them.

As a society, we need to loosen up and break down the barriers we put up between us.

The day that white people can tell black jokes in front of black people and vice versa is when we can begin to better understand each other and improve our relations.

Political correctness is a cancer on our society that is actually forcing us to not be ourselves in public and to segregate us from each other.
