The 1st tanker strikes were in Tidal Wave II. I think they had hit some refineries previously.

I still get thrill watching US aircraft shoot up train loads of Nazi supplies in WWII France. I doubt if the train engineers were lockstep Nazis.
Same for submarine warfare.
