“While the person was being detained, the trooper found a small “improvised device” in the person’s pocket.”

In the public education system this is known as a clock.

If they ever stopped my work truck they would find all sorts of “improvised devices”.

Yeah - I bent that wrench to get to the far spark plug.

That piece of wood with the hook is for grabbing overhead wires.

Etc.

When I was a lad ... around 1959 or 60, my brother and I discovered we could get a coke by kicking a certain machine just SO ... so we did

The lady across the street called the cops and a couple of plain wrappers showed up

Now .... being a boy, I had in my pocket a ball bearing thing I had found with a hole through it, and I had stuck a string through it and knotted both ends .... and stuck it in my pocket ... I was about 10, maybe 11 years old (my brother 2 years younger)

They asked us what we were doing yada, yada ... yes sir, yes sir, no sir, yes sir yada yada and the searched us (we had about 6 or 7 cans of coke already liberated and we WERE intent on emptying the machine)

When officer Fred pulled my bearing out and asked what was this, I told the truth .. "I don't know"

'Cause I didn't ... I was a boy

Anyway, they took us home (kept the coke, I'll bet) and turned us over to our father .... who turned us over

True story

If that was today the lawyer would cost 50K and the bail set at a mil
