I do agree with you as I hope they find Salvation in Christ Jesus.
My comment is more about the husband’s statement regarding these hood rats. It is not his place to forgive. That is God’s place. We all know that in this current political climate justice will not be blind. It will see two young troubled youths who need rehabilitated (given money, housing, counseling,etc.).
Others who would do such things will not be discourage by the severe punishment these two get because they won’t get it.

God’s Sovereignty is the only reason I can contemplate such things and not go insane with rage.

Yes, I do take your point.

I am reminded of a conversation I had in England, with a Royal Marine who was annoyed by a statement by a clergyman, who "forgave" a group of men who broke into his house, and raped his daughter.

"Her father!" he said, "the GodBotherer. [An English slang term]. Saying that he would forgive them and they would have a place in his heart. I'd find a place for them! In the cellar ... under the floor ..."
