In Terror Fight, France Feels Increasingly Isolated: Worries allies may not have will to fight

PARIS: The world seems awash in sympathy with France’s tragedy, from candlelight vigils to stadiums illuminated in tricolor. But, when it comes to action against Islamic State, there is growing fear in Paris that France may be in this fight dangerously alone.

French officials are particularly frustrated with their European Union partners over what they see as insufficient cooperation in intelligence, security, and defense. "Everyone must understand that it's urgent for Europe to recover, to organize itself, and to defend itself against the terrorist menace," French Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve said this week.

In one way, the U.S. has responded much more quickly than France's European partners after the Nov. 13 attacks, boosting intelligence-sharing with Paris. But Washington hasn't signaled that a more determined military effort against Islamic State lies ahead. President Barack Obama reiterated this week that the current U.S. approach of limited military engagement is working, and ruled out the use of ground troops.

French officials and politicians worry that the U.S. is underestimating the threat Islamic State poses to the international community.

Karma's a real b***. I remember when the French smugly REFUSED to support Bush's coalition to take down Saddam Hussein. Many of their politicians were arguing that doing so would make them a target for terrorism.

Question to the French: Did sitting on the sidelines make you any less a target? So why ask this same question now?

And France will be driven closer to Russia as a result. Putin is killing a lot of Jihadis regardless of his motivation.

I’ll save France the trouble of “worrying.” Your allies do not have the will to fight.

If France does get series about stopping the threat of radical Islam, they will be completely on their own.

Once they start dropping bombs on Iran, instead of using them as bomber escorts, I will admit Russia’s actions are a net gain.

And don't forget France's top guy Jaques Chiraq went around the world to our potential allies, right after 9-11, years before Saddam Hussein, the French telling our allies not to join us in Afghanistan when we wanted to kill and neutralize the 9-11 plotters safe haven. - Tom

Russia, Hamas, Syria and Iran are on the same side and fighting side-by-side. Iran is a major military and commercial trading partner with Russia. Not only won’t Russia attack Iran, they have supplied Iran with the most technologically advanced missiles to protect against a possible Israeli attack on the Iranian/Russian nuclear program. (Having said that, I can’t believe all this help by Russia will prevent Iran from supplying anti-Russian terrorists.)

“Worries allies may not have will to fight”

Duh...
Ya’ think??

That would mean dropping some of the cradle-to-grave Welfare that has kept the Socialists in power. Combined with decades of political correctness, nothing short of total destruction is going to get the Euros to fight.

Yep. Bush practically begged the Frogs to help us. Now, that shouldn’t matter-—we need to stand up to the jihadis but should remind France of Iraq constantly.

The French betrayed us after 9/11.

Let them eat hummus.

That’s why I don’t get the warm fuzzies over Russia’s role as “defender of Christianity” like some Freepers do. If Iran’s clients do go after Russia, I doubt Putin or his cronies will get hurt.

Why should any country “help France”’ by kicking the Middle East hornet’s nest if France refuses to help itself by closing it’s borders to Islam? These morons just requested 30,000 more “syrian refugees” be sent to their country...

France still needs to clarify it’s strategy... It it ‘invite the Islamists into France and hug them to death with teary recitals of Lennon’s Imagine’ or is it ‘bomb their homelands into the Stone Age’?

Doing both of these things at the same time is a recipe for French extinction, which may be what the inflatable Marxist mime Holland secretly wants.

France has itself to blame.

How much cash they send over the years to Abbas and Arafat who terrorized Israel with suicide bombers, paid murderers to kill Israeli civilians and paid their families while in Israeli jails a stipend?

They said nothing while Hamas showered missiles against international law on civilian population, say nothing while Fakers knife people in the streets and run them down on sidewalks with cars.

French who help Hitler round up Jews and send them to the death camps.

Yeah the same French who took in these Muzzies and let them have their own enclaves where even the police fear to go.

France needs to pony up and take out the jihadi trash living among them first.

France is in the same position today as Poland and other Eastern European countries were two years ago when the Russians took over the Crimea and advanced into Ukraine — without any NATO protection because the leader of NATO, Barack Obama, refused to lift a finger to provide any security or leadership to protect those countries from what seemed at the time to be inevitable Russian aggression against Eastern Europe.

So now it’s France’s turn to be denied Western support under the leadership of Barack Obama. And the French president is surprised? This is the same French president whom Obama refused to honor by appearing with other world leaders at the post-Charlie-Hebdo stroll down the Champs-Elysee to demonstrate solidarity with France in its hour of need.

It’s not that Barack Obama doesn’t care about the future of Europe. He will be in Paris next week along with 40,000 other global-warming enthusiasts to demonstrate the urgent need for the world to spend a trillion dollars a year in order to ensure that the temperature of the earth will go down by .05 degrees by 2100.

As a nuclear power, the French could completely destroy ISIS and Islam, for that matter, if they had the will, but they don’t.

Who in the world’s stupid enough to count on Obama? The French have his number... they have good reason to be afraid.

“Paris, which described the Nov. 13 shooting and bombing spree that killed 130 people as “an act of war,” hasn’t asked for NATO assistance, invoking instead the mutual-defense obligations of the European Union.”

I can’t say that I blame France for not bothering with Obama (i.e., NATO), as there’s no way to know what side Obama will take (i.e., he could start bombing France, for all we know), but I’m not sure what France was expecting from the EU, as their combined military now consists of the Polish Calvary and a few worn-out bi-planes.
