. . . . and who cares?
The left thinks if you give your lunch money to the bully that he’ll leave you alone.
Robert R. Reilly, interviewed in The Islamist Spring and the West’s Decline http://www.catholicworldreport.com/Item/2544/the_islamist_spring_and_the_wests_decline.aspx , makes sense of the mysterious affinity of post-modernist, atheistic secular humanists with theocratic Muslims. (Perhaps there is secret nostalgia for the missing, “messianic” element lost to the Left in the late 20th century.) In “Winning the War of Ideas” http://www.claremont.org/crb/article/winning-the-war-of-ideas/ , Mr. Reilly, former director of the Voice of America, notes that when engaging in a war of ideas, one must not only understand one’s opponents’ ideas, but one must himself have an idea—some idea. (The progressive’s image of humanity is JJ Rousseau’s, not Aristotle’s, a self-inflicted ideological shot in one’s foot.) The American experiment started with an idea that was, at the time, more exciting than the oversimplified glory of Islam. It requires generations to form broad ideals. It remains to be seen if the West is already too for regressed into end-stage, terminal civilizational disease to go the distance required to outlast the true Islam.
