Sorry, it was a mess from the get go. A Shiite government was established - full of Iran’s cronies — and that happened early in Bush’s presidency. And all along, Iraq’s Christians were being blown up by the Shiites who were allowed to run wild after Saddam was taken out. The “Surge” paid some tribal chief to temporarily calm things down, but it was still a no-go land outside of the Green Zone.

All I am saying is what you said differs only marginally, if at all, from Obama’s rhetoric.
