Nicaragua shut down its border with Costa Rica on Sunday to keep more than 1,000 Cubans from entering the country. The move by Nicaraguan authorities is a direct rebuke to their Costa Rican counterparts' decision, one day earlier, to grant transit visas to the migrants - a decision that the administration of Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega said will set off a humanitarian crisis.
The border crisis comes amid increasing tensions over the rising number of Cubans crossing Central America on their way to the United States in order to circumvent the heavily patrolled Florida Straits and to take advantage of special immigration arrangements that date back to the Cold War.
"The Costa Rican government, in a deliberate and irresponsible action, hurled and continues hurling thousands of Cuban citizens at Nicaragua's southern border posts," the Ortega administration said in a statement. Costa Rican Foreign Minister Manuel Gonzalez, in turn, condemned Nicaragua's "totally irresponsible" decision to shutter its border, according to The Tico Times.

So many people are struggling to leave the Island paradise of Cuba, with its wonderful healthcare system, and the security of having their lives guided by benevolent government. I guess they want to share their blessings with the capitalist slaves of the US.

These are defectors from Cuba....A lot have defected from Venezuela and are trying to move north where they can get immunity. Most are from the medical field and some are deserters from Castro’s military. This is a huge embarrassment to Castro.
Currently there are a few thousands set up in Colombia and Panama. They rioted when Obozo signed the deal with Cuba. These people are much better folks than any breathing registered Democrat.
Yes, and Ortega’s doing Obama a favor. Funny how this admin wants all the Syrians it can and insults anyone objecting to the potential of ISIS using the refugees for cover, but not a peep on this, no condemnations of Nicaragua’s “xenophobic” move. Wonder how much Obama’s paying Ortega?
