U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, R-TX, officially committed to end the controversial Common Core State Standards if elected president, signing a pledge with Florida Parents Against Common Core on Friday. The pledge says he will oppose any federal efforts to mandate, impose or influence standards, assessments or curriculum across the country.
Disgruntled by the lack of response from Gov. Rick Scott and the Florida Department of Education over repealing Common Core, FPACC was ready to make its voice heard in one of the most important states for 2016, and members opted to start at the top of the political chain to eradicate Common Core irrevocably.
FPACC asked all Republican presidential primary candidates at the Republican Party of Florida's Sunshine Summit in Orlando to sign the pledge saying they would support ending Common Core.

Wow. Cruz was the ONLY one? I wonder what the excuses are from the others.
But Cruz is for a VAT. When I realized that he fell from the top of my list of qualified candidates.
I can’t imagine why not. The dumbing down of America is a disgrace and stopping it is important. Our current college situations are evidence of that.
Which has nothing to do with Common Core.
Who is your real preferred candidate?

He is not against standards, assessments and curriculum, just federal involvement in them.
He has an interesting posting history.
He’s against Common Core.
Trump is against Common Core also.
I heard that but he didn’t sign the pledge.
I’ll take your word on that but the pledge is only against federal involvement.
Common Core won the LA races for state board of education on Oct. 24. People who say they oppose it must not have come to the polls. There’s runoff elections Nov. 21, and a Democrat is surging in the governor’s race. Many LA “conservatives” are not voting.
Every week leading up to the 2016 Primary Season, HSLDA will post a profile for one of the 2016 Presidential candidates on Homeschooling Now, highlighting where each stands on the Common Core State Standards Initiative.
CURRENT POSITION: Opposes Common Core
VOTING RECORD/TIMELINE:
2013: Cruz cosponsors resolution at the Republican National Convention to oppose Common Core; signs letter to the Labor-Health and Human Services-Education Appropriations Subcommittee calling for the defunding of Common Core.
2014: Cruz cosponsors Sen. Lindsey Grahamâs Senate Resolution 345, denouncing the coercion of states into accepting Common Core.
2015: Becomes the first Republican to announce candidacy for 2016 Presidential election; is first to sign the Eagle Forum STOP Common Core Pledge; cosponsors Sen. Vittersâ Local Control of Education Act, prohibiting the government from mandating specific academic standards.
Personally I’m glad that he isn’t ruling out states setting standards if they want.
Education should completely fall to the states. The Fed should have nothing to do with it.
Education should be completely in the private sector. NO government should be involved with it. Educating our children is far too important a task to let government continue making a hash of it.
I agree and I think that’s Ted’s position too. But it doesn’t end Common Core.
So at what point are we going to get some indication of whom else was at this thing? Because the article seemed to fail to actually mention that.
