Could North Korea again save Taiwan?

Continued risks of instability north of the DMZ may distract from coming cross-Straits tensions

Beijing had previously used the collapse of its former advisory, the Soviet Union, to reposition its military strength from the northern frontier to areas adjacent to Taiwan. And Xi gave no indication that his meeting with Taiwan’s Ma Ying-jeou would lead to any reduction in the estimated 1,800 missiles aimed at Taiwan.

What could, however, lead to a redeployment of PLA forces northward and a re-evaluation of priorities would be another crisis triggered by North Korea. All eyes in Asia were directed on Pyongyang during the Workers’ Party of Korea (WPK) anniversary on October 10th given expectations that Kim Jong Un would order another missile launch or even conduct a fourth underground nuclear test in defiance of Security Council resolutions. In his recent work North Korean House of Cards, North Korea leadership expert Ken Gause has written that “while the Kim regime may not be on the brink of collapse, it may continue in a state of perpetual uncertainty, with the possibility of collapse ever present.”

WSJ’s Saturday edition suggested China may have reached the point of giving up on “taking” Taiwan.

WSJ is also Murdoch’s mouthpiece. He is against Trump, and can not longer be completely believed.

The Journal has been completely opposed to Trumpism, for sure.

Not only that, but what was at one time a true voice for conservatism (National Review under William F. Buckley) has been taken over by the Log Cabin Rump Rangers & Booty Bandits, along with all sorts of amnesty pimps.

Each day, I start with Drudge to see if there are any major breaking stories, then it's on to FR which has always been a far more reliable news source.

Tiger...Tiger...Tiger....let your readers know when you are posting a piece from this site.
Most will not know that this is a Nork propaganda site. I seriously doubt if these “Western-named writers” actually exist.

Dennis Halpin appears to be a real person. Andrei Lankov writes columns here occasionally. He is a Russian academic with in-depth knowledge about NK regime and communist system in general. His article is quite informative. This man teaches at an university in S. Korea. There are some questionable so-called NK specialists in S. Korea. He is not one of them. I followed his writings for some years. In early years (before he joined NK News contributors,) he entertained ideas about some kind of engagement. Since then, he drooped the idea. Can you tell me what makes you think that this site is a propaganda site?

I worry more about Mansurov guy at 38north.org. His view is more sympathetic to N. Korea, a kind of guy Foggy Bottom loves to have around.

If I see at this site a fellow who talks like Selig Harrison or Bruce Cummings, I will let you know.
