How does having a gun keep you safe from a suicide bomber ? From what has been reported in the news, the terrorists in the theater didn't use their vests right away. Shooting a terrorist who is wearing a suicide vest often negates their plan. Also, as has been learned by our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan, if you see someone approaching who is wearing a vest, or looks like they are, ordering them to stop at gunpoint tells you pretty quickly if they actually are planning an attack.
