Scotland Yard has said the security services will be reviewing the terror threat level to the UK, while policing in public areas may stepped up today in the wake of Friday's terror attacks in Paris.
Assistant Commissioner Mark Rowley told BBC Radio 4's Today programme that the current threat level to Britain was at its second highest - severe - meaning that an attack is "highly likely".
But it could be raised later, after intelligence is considered and the emerging picture from Paris is discussed at the government's Cobra emergency committee, he suggested.
David Cameron will chair the Cobra meeting of senior ministers, intelligence chiefs and police, later today.
Mr Rowley said Scotland Yard had an officer in Paris, gathering intelligence and information on the attacks to share with colleagues in London. He appealed to the public to stay vigilant in reporting anything suspicious.

Prior to the attack, France had been on high alert since the January 2015 Ile-de-France attacks in Paris that killed seventeen people.
